You've heard about California's zero-emissions car mandate, but the state's zero-emissions train mandate might be even crazier. It's currently drawing opposition from a broad coalition of unlikely allies before the EPA. Deep dive for @NRO nationalreview.com/2024/04/califo…

Most of the negative impacts of the loss of ridehailing will be felt by residents who will have fewer local transportation options, but the total impacts will be much broader. Hard to imagine a large event planner selecting Minneapolis as a host city in this environment.

A great tweet. This is the fundamental open question in modern academic urban economics. How do different cities position themselves in "attributes space"? San Francisco is the opposite case!. A thread on the interplay of local exogenous and endogenous amenities.

Did you know foreign airlines can’t run flights between American cities? That limits our options for domestic flights and makes them more expensive. Competition means innovation and cheaper prices. It’s time for American airlines to step up their game.

such a shame that Congress cannot get AV policy done right and that, meanwhile, "the Biden administration seems likely to keep AV regulatory policy in the slow lane," as Marc explains here. Once again, life-saving technology is being held back by political stupidity.

My hottest movie theater take is that people who do this should be beaten about the head and neck by ushers carrying metal poles and that if you cry out in pain you should be bludgeoned until you are unconscious so as to avoid inconveniencing your neighbors with your moans.
Even the right wing think tank guy thinks California’s av regulators have been fairly honest and competent. 🥰
@binarybits Sorry, you didn’t say that. But I wouldn’t characterize ignoring irrelevant objections as overruling anyone or being pro-AV. IMO, California’s regulatory framework creates too many veto points that could be exploited by less honest and competent regulators.
