I've had a relaxing long weekend, and now it's time to spend the break getting down to some writing (MA research project) and also admin (mostly admissions for September 2024). Can't help but feel deeply fortunate to have a peaceful place like this to work from.

The child has a hundred languages (and a hundred hundred hundred more) Happy birthday Malaguzzi - thanks for showing us a beautiful and powerful way to respond to war, violence and fascism. Like many others, I carry these lessons in my heart through the turmoil of todays world.

I see people are arguing that Sure Start was ineffective because it was universal. In my experience of teaching in an MNS and a Children's Centre, the universality of what we provided was one of the best things about it.
2 types of tweet about Sure Start in the last 24 hours: Ones from mostly women who have worked in EY or used Sure Start themselves, recognising the impact it had. And ones from mostly men who did neither and think they know best how it should've been run.

There are 7 statutory areas of learning in EYFS & phonics is only small part of the statutory programme for Literacy (decoding only mentioned once) Prime areas underpin all other learning so if your'e falling behind with phonics you need more time for prime areas not more phonics
If the scheme has decided you’re “falling behind” (remember you’re probably 4 or maybe just 5) you’re more likely to spend over 45 minutes every day on phonics. Over 1/3 of those who responded said they spent >45 mins, that’s almost 4 hours every week on one aspect of one AOL.
