@SeanTrende Sean: what's your favorite color? 4yo: blue Sean: oh my, no. That's just how your brain interprets light bouncing off objects, and your emotional connection to that frequency, based on the sum of your life experiences. 4yo: *crying* purple? Sean: you cultural elites disgust me

@FabulousFredNYC @JamesSurowiecki Mickey Mantle had 6 lower ops+ seasons, could never have stolen 50 (or, as you say, 100) bases, was an average fielder until he became hobbled, and most importantly and sadly, Roger Maris is dead. (MM still better of course, but there's some context).

@MarkHodder33 @Ivdown12 @OleTimeHardball Does your fantasy league incorporate defensive stats?

@cardc0llect0r87 @ENiedfeldt @DanClarkSports @Cardinals I appreciate that he actually produced something substantial to refer to, but it doesn't seem to support his point, at least not definitively. The quoted rule doesn't speak to how the hat is angled (or jersey is buttoned, or socks are worn, etc.). There's a rule, but it's limited

@Remow2112 @BBGreatMoments Not really what? I said Rose and Gwynn are appreciated by old and new perspectives, and that you'd need a different ex. to exemplify not getting enough credit these days. Arraez is very interesting, but he's kind of the reverse: modern guy who would have been revered in the 80s.

@Remow2112 @BBGreatMoments You'll have to find another example. Those two are still understood as massively talented and valuable by advanced metrics in addition to fitting older styles of the game.

@DerekBowe7 @stlcubsfan1 @CulturalBreak_ In other words, we're all just in disagreement about how valuable that factor is. One reason I like WAR is that it does at least try to quantify how much not just how well. It's not perfect (like era and BA), but I like that part.

@DerekBowe7 @stlcubsfan1 @CulturalBreak_ You made a good point when you conceded that if he had only made one amazing start, it wouldn't matter much. If he had made 22 great starts, these people arguing with you would concede Ohtani had it locked up. So we all agree it matters *how much* one excels not just how well.

@DerekBowe7 @WINTHEDAY21 Is it a more flawed stat than "I know what I'm talking about because I actually played and was pretty good"?

@FieldsBret50774 @brendan_cubs Good thing you can send messages with your pitches and don't have to rely on spelling and punctuation.

@Calebm412578 @TBifford You're not a fan of divisiveness, and proud of Georgia's black population. Thank you for your inclusive and progress---- oh wait, just saw your most recent message. x.com/i/status/20646…

@larain_10 @joeroganhq With all modern technology and medicine at your disposal, you wonder if loud music is hurting fertility rates? I think the point, anyway, was oh, nevermind.

@MichaelFonda @billybinion The players possibly didn't know the rule (that they could opt out) because the team apparently didn't tell them. The policy should be pretty acceptable to anyone, but the Giants miscommunicated.

@cole__monroe @Buster_ESPN The Central isn't even hyperbolically over, like the East. All teams over .500 and 2.5 g separates first and last.

@OKWildlifeDept I literally never thought of petting a bobcat until this post, and suddenly I'm determined. There will be blood on your hands, OK Wildlife Conservation Department.
