@dom_lucre I’m pretty sure wiping devices was and still is standard practice among corporations and government agencies, and it has nothing to do with a massive conspiracy or anything illegal. All sorts of bad things that can happen when corporate data gets exposed to the world.
@scttfrnks@Wizards_DnD Nothing can beat the University of Wisconsin removing a 50 ton boulder that honored a famous geologist because some student activists found a racist nickname in a 1925 journal.
@rayhuawu Tojo probably would have been better, but Hirohito was really more than just a stooge, he could have stopped the madness long before he did. Japan has never atoned for it's mass atrocities, and even got most of their war criminals pardoned by McArthur
@sch11midt @sullydish The problem here is not just decency, but perverse incentives. The driver has zero economic incentive to return the phone because "repeat customer" does not matter to him or her and clearly Lyft won't bother them about it. I hope Lyft is at least logging complaints.
@ThePaxRomana1@GoldbergPrime I don't think the 1st Amendment applies here since govt is not involved it's more about haw much you value the free expression of ideas over the control of ideas.
@gadfly1974 @GoldbergPrime It depends on the way the protest is carried out. Registering disapproval with a brief interruption is very different than intense disruption intended to halt the communication of ideas.
@nathandickson@EPoe187 The traditional liberal view is that liberal democracy is the inevitable culmination of progress, but recent history reveals this may not be the case. Chinese authoritarianism is ascendent and liberal democracy in decline, while our leaders self-sabatoge.
@thehankrose This is emblematic of antiracism: a bunch of overeducated white liberals shoving black people's noses in someone else's shit. "You see this racism!?! Isn't it disgusting!?! You must ruminate about racism 24 hours a day or you are a self-loathing race traitor!!!"
@Aurelian_Mag @AmberFaire1 Partially, but it's more they have a base in Humanities departments and have been brainwashing as many students as possible for decades at this point. Those students have been populating liberal institutions for years like sleeper cells, until they woke up last summer.
@lesboinee @BuckAngel Glenn Greenwald was on Anthony Sullivan's podcast not long ago, and he described how bad things are in Brazil for LGBT rights. I wish activists here would spend less time making mountains out of molehills and more time drawing attention to abuses in other parts of the world.
@CJFerguson1111 I wonder how much of this is indicative of Biden and his performance, and what reflects our extreme polarization and unwillingness to cut the other team's guy some slack?
@gmiller I agree, but considering the trillions we spend on superfluous military technology that gets ripped off by the Chinese for pennies on the dollar, we could do a lot of good with several of those 1%'s invested in science, education, infrastructure etc. Sadly, it will never happen.
@thehankrose What's next, hemorrhoids are caused by racial injustice? Racism is a serious issue, and this constant expansion and conflating makes it hard to take seriously.
@kittypurrzog I've heard more than once that 'crazy' is offensive to the mentally ill, which is crazy. In addition to being stupid, this distracts from the real problem of the term 'mental illness' being used as a synonym for crazy or evil.
@ConceptualJames Grievance Studies departments have seeded these organizations for years with their brainwashed acolytes, and after the George Floyd debacle they all stood up and realized they have power. They have been pushing boundaries ever since, and the leadership always caves.
