What a shift in time. In the 80s, his father's regime killed, tortured, and disappeared many innocent Punjabi youth for wearing this KESRI color as a turban. @RahulGandhi should apologize for all of his family's atrocities against the Sikhs. Symbolic gesture doesn't work anymore.

The diaspora should focus on fixing its shortcomings, reconnecting with the tradition, avoiding assimilation and passing down our religion, culture & language to kids, rather than giving stupid political takes on Punjab & claiming a higher moral-ground than Sikhs of Punjab.

It is a be-adbi to allow this to happen. The Gurdwara committees need to be held responsible and this must end ASAP. In an ideal world, this would never have been allowed to happen.

What's worse is that in the hall where people were wearing shoes, there were Gurbani panktis written on the walls and many pictures of shaheeds and Gurughars as well.

But those same people have no hesitation in entering Langar Hall in their outdoor shoes, that too in a country like Canada where it snows so much and in a city like Vancouver where it rains a lot? This is completely disrespectful, objectionable and infuriating.

Many people in Canada remove their outdoor shoes as soon as they get home and either switch to their indoor footwears or wear only socks in their home. It is considered disrespectful in some cases to enter some other person's house in your outdoor shoes.

4 - Entering the langar hall with the shoes on Now this is the issue I feel the most strongly about. Although I haven't seen it happening in most Gurughars, but this has been normalised in a few Gurudwaras which is completely unacceptable.

"If you give people an inch, they take a yard." You allow someone to transgress a bit, then they gradually start transgressing more and keep pushing your limits of tolerance. Also, were there no people with physical problems in earlier generations? They didn't complain.

But I have seen youth and children with healthy and fit bodies sitting on these chairs for comfort and luxury in Gurughar, which is outrightly wrong and unacceptable. The question is, if we as a community, normalise chairs in Gurughar, where do we draw the line?

3 - Having chairs and sofas in the Darbar Hall and tables and chairs in the Langar Hall. Now this is an issue which has drawn a lot of attention recently. Some people argue that they help elders with knee-problems and people with disabilities.
