@notgaetti Which is why Buckner was playing a game 6 injured.
@notgaetti As a child, he was my favorite player, right until the Cubs traded him.
Unless, for example, perhaps a walk-off grand slam HR, a single play usually is not the reason for a loss. That was the 6th game, not the 7th. Buckner was a great ball player. He had 300 more hits than Mickey Mantle. Mickey Mantle went 2 for 15 in the 1963 WS. It’s all hi fault they lost, right? Wrong.
@notgaetti Buckner was my first favorite Cub when I became a fan in 1979. He gave it everything he had everyday despite being in so much pain.
@notgaetti It’s is so unfortunate that bill will be known for this gaffe and not the very good player he was. But he’s very sensible about it to his credit. How about how the level of failure that Donnie Moore experienced, and it cost him everything, and not that epically bad either, sad
@notgaetti Is making tons of weak contact really that impressive?
@notgaetti He was a terrific player as a Mets fan you’re right about remembering that play most of all👏
