Regarde autour de toi : c'est un asile à ciel ouvert. Ces vieux empires arthritiques sont devenus structurellement irréformables. Ce ne sont plus des nations, ce sont des musées en ruine gérés par des syndics de faillite. Le poids de leur Histoire les a écrasés, et ils sont aujourd'hui incapables de produire autre chose que des réglementations suicidaires. La gangrène socialiste a rongé ce continent jusqu'à l'os. L'Europe de l'Ouest est devenue une gigantesque sangsue bureaucratique où le simple fait de respirer, de travailler ou de penser nécessite un formulaire en trois exemplaires validé par un technocrate. L'État s'est muté en un monstre totalitaire mou qui vampirise le sang de ceux qui produisent encore pour subventionner la médiocrité, l'oisiveté et la bureaucratie. Tout y est nivelé par le bas. L'excellence est punie par l'impôt, la réussite est criminalisée, et l'assistanat est érigé en droit de l'homme suprême. C'est le triomphe absolu de l'homme faible, jaloux et castré. Quant à leurs valeurs morales, elles ont été dissoutes dans un trou noir de lâcheté et d'auto-flagellation. Cette civilisation a remplacé ses cathédrales et son esprit de conquête par la culpabilité perpétuelle, les numéros verts et l'éco-anxiété. Ce sont des peuples qui rampent dans la boue, dévorés par les vers de la haine de soi, demandant pardon au monde entier pour le simple fait d'exister. Ils ont transformé leurs sociétés en hospices de fous. Un peuple amoureux de sa propre agonie ne peut pas être sauvé. Ne perds pas une seconde de plus à essayer de colmater des institutions qui sont des tumeurs inopérables. Les parlements nationaux et les labyrinthes de Bruxelles sont au-delà de toute réparation ; ce sont de vastes machines à broyer la volonté. Tu ne peux pas guérir une septicémie terminale par les urnes. Le navire s'enfonce dans les abysses pendant que l'orchestre joue une berceuse inclusive et que l'équipage calcule le bilan carbone des canots de sauvetage. Alors lâche cette hache. Laisse les asticots finir leur banquet. Laisse ce vieux cimetière s'effondrer dans la fange qu'il réclame à genoux. Sauve ta peau !

Previously, people could simply save the excess of their production over consumption in sound money—either gold or a derivative of it—and dedicate their time to their families and pursuing their passions. There was no need for a dentist, construction worker, or small business owner to double as a hedge fund manager, attempting to predict market movements just to preserve what they had already earned. Today, the fate of many people’s savings hinges on Japanese monetary policy, the possibility of another financial crisis in Greece, turmoil in the Middle East, or the stock market throwing a tantrum over a comment from the Chairman of the Federal Reserve—or countless other ever-changing macroeconomic factors. Frankly, it’s absurd—made even more so because most people mindlessly accept this situation as “normal.” It doesn’t have to be this way.

Disappointed but not surprised to see Duane waddling in here. It’s an easy one for him - cherry pick the ugliest possible reading of an issue and huff and puff some laurentian talking points as if he just discovered them. He’s entitled to his opinion, of course, but labelling these referendum questions “anti-immigrant” is lazy even by his standards. Albertans have every right to weigh in on whether we want more control over the numbers, economic migrants first, and a wait before temporary residents tap the same health, education and social programs as citizens and permanent residents. You know, the generations of people who have built the province, and yes, the many respectful, hardworking, and thoughtful immigrants who came here the right way - before his idol Justin opened the borders to mass uncontrolled immigration. That’s not hate. That’s how you keep a welfare state from buckling. If the big bad professor doesn’t support them, he’s free to say so. But calling them “anti-immigrant”? Sorry big guy - that’s not analysis. That’s just the slogan you brought from the rally.

The Americans aren’t going to let Mark Carney control the narrative so he can keep his grip on power anymore. This is refreshing. Finally they are saying out loud what we knew he was up to the whole time.

As I watch this trade war unfold between Carney and the United States, there’s an interesting game of chess taking shape. One of Canada’s strongest pieces of leverage against the Americans is Alberta’s oil. If this trade dispute continues to deteriorate, Ottawa could eventually look at taxing, restricting or otherwise using Alberta’s energy exports as leverage against the United States. The problem is that doing so could inflict enormous damage on Alberta’s economy. And this is where the timing becomes incredibly important. The most damaging U.S. tariffs threatening Ontario’s manufacturing economy are not expected to fully hit until January 2027. Alberta votes on Option 2 on October 19. That means the October vote could fundamentally change Ottawa’s calculation before the trade war reaches its most dangerous point. If Albertans reject Option 2 and the threat of an independence referendum disappears, I believe Carney will have far more political room to put Alberta oil on the table. If Option 2 succeeds, Ottawa has a very different problem. Suddenly, using Alberta’s economy as a bargaining chip risks pouring gasoline on an independence movement that has already demonstrated it can win at the ballot box. That is why Option 2 matters even if you are a federalist. You do not have to support Alberta independence today to understand the value of leverage. If you simply want a better deal for Alberta and do not want Ottawa sacrificing our economy to protect its political base in Central Canada, keeping the threat of independence alive forces Ottawa to think twice. That pressure disappears if Option 2 loses. Then there is Trump. Personally, I don’t think Trump has much incentive to publicly boost Alberta independence. We just watched the liberals successfully use anti-American sentiment to rally their political base. Trump openly involving himself in Alberta’s independence debate could hand Carney exactly the political weapon he wants. In fact, this confrontation with the United States benefits the liberals politically in several ways. It creates an external enemy, fuels a sense of Canadian nationalism, gives them someone else to blame for economic weakness and provides political cover for massive new government spending. Trump does not need to say anything about Alberta. The trade war itself creates the pressure. As January approaches, Ottawa may eventually have to decide what it is willing to sacrifice to protect Ontario’s economy and its own voter base. I do not want that sacrifice to be Alberta. That is why I believe Albertans should support Option 2 on October 19. Keep the threat of an independence referendum alive. Keep the pressure on Ottawa. And make it politically dangerous for the Carney government to use Alberta’s economy and the livelihoods of Albertans as a bargaining chip.
