Weirdo Oct.o.pus simps on my timeline. Who knew that such a thing as an emotional attachment to an energy retailer was possible?!! I can half understand Tezla fanboys -- it's a car, after all... But how does energy retail stir such passions?
@clim8resistance I'm with Octopus because they were good value and their service was good, but if there was actually any competition and anyone cheaper I'd move instantly. The circle jerks about their agile tariff are hilarious though.
@LoftusSteve @clim8resistance Honestly, Steve - I know that you don't like some of our stuff, but I'm really glad you chose us for the value and service and thank you for saying so.
@g__j @clim8resistance I have no problem with any of Octopuses services Greg, it's a good business. The only thing I have issue with is the lie that renewables are cheap based off a wholesale price that is fake that nobody pays.
@LoftusSteve @clim8resistance Hey Steve - thanks for decent discussion! I agree that wholesale prices are completely out of kilter with real costs. Renewables are cheapest at source - if they're used whilst generating. That's why we focus so much on tariffs/services which help shift consumption that way.
Shifting consumption to times of peak generation doesn't change the cost though Greg. If a wind farm is on ROC and has wholesale + 1.8 ROCs that's what it costs all the time. If it has a CfD at £148 per MWh that's what it costs all the time. The wholesale market price might change, but the price consumers pay is fixed.
@LoftusSteve @g__j @clim8resistance 1/3 Saw this discussion, we as consumers have only 3 options for energy. Option 1 Ofgem uses Wholesale for price cap which is the only plan most can end up on, they have adjusted how it is calculated multiple times and will again. = Variable tariff plan
@LoftusSteve @g__j @clim8resistance 2/3 Option 2 Only Octopus uses dynamic pricing systems with true transparency. = Multiple plans beyond variable tariff
@LoftusSteve @g__j @clim8resistance 3/3 Option 3 Micro Generation Upfront costs and bureaucracy increase the payback time for the consumer 3-4 times vs ROC for the generators. = High cost but freedom over X years(besides paying for the Grid)
@LoftusSteve @g__j @clim8resistance Lastly the reason we go on about Octopus so much is the fact, we as consumers can see the mathematical benefits so that everyone can manage better. The Kraken supported customer service and pink fluffy toys are a bonus(+ the odd sausage roll)
It's like having a fancy app merely to manage your own immiseration -- a condition that is lobbied for by the producer of the app. Your app does not give you any transparency to see beyond the bureaucracy at all. It does not empower you. It does not give you a better deal. It does not let you bargain on terms that you decide. It is a distraction. And that's why Octofanboys seem so dull minded. Energy prices have increased because of policy, inflicted on us, without due democratic process, forcing the closure of economic generation, aided by the false promises of RE developers, and the outright fibs and false prognostications of green ideology. Nobody resents you having toys to play with. It is the imposition on the rest of us, with far reaching consequences for households, industries, businesses and jobs.
@oldmordim @LoftusSteve @g__j @clim8resistance This is @OctopusEnergy which added nearly £3k to my bill literally overnight and then spent 6 mths refusing to answer emails asking for their calculations. @ofgem reviewed, agreed with me, made them apologise & give me back £75. 🤡 Still no supporting evidence provided.
