True story: So someone emailed my work email to ask me why all the students on Abbott Elementary are Black and I said because it's set in Philly and they asked where the white students were and I said Philly is 75% BIPOC and majority Black and the public schools are 86% POC and they said, "so why aren't the 14% of white students represented on the show?"
@VABVOX The white gaze demands that people of color consider the white reader or observer's reaction and feelings.
@patswithyou Right? It's a (fabulous Emmy-winning) show by a Black woman about Black students and teachers in a majority Black city. I mean I never saw a Black character on Seinfeld or Friends.
@patswithyou @VABVOX Hollywood and msm protrayed blacks as criminals for decades but now I trust them😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫
@patswithyou @VABVOX Representation is representation regardless of whose asking. While there’s more content they can find of themselves, maybe this show is just as important to them. Please don’t gate keep inclusivity. Please
@patswithyou @VABVOX the irony is unfathomable. #blackhobbits
@patswithyou @VABVOX Hey men do the same thing when women talk about themselves
@patswithyou @VABVOX Omigosh this is so true. my (all yt) book club read Heaven and Earth Grocery Store and lady was offended that the (2 lone) yt characters were portrayed so mean…SMH
@patswithyou @VABVOX Not just consider but center, no matter how irrelevant. Exhausting… i’m so amazed they’re not tired.
@patswithyou @VABVOX You do know this is the exact thing that POC do in everything. Right? But it’s “racist” for anyone to think the other way. Riiiiiiight. Btw I love Abbott and never once thought, where are the white people. Because I really don’t care. I know Philly is predominately black.
