There are lies that are merely foolish, and then there are lies that become dangerous because frightened people begin to organise their lives around them. Over the last few days, one such falsehood has travelled with astonishing confidence: that President William Samoei Ruto ordered Burundians out of Kenya, that East Africans are suddenly unwelcome here, and that Kenya has turned its back on the Jumuiya. He said no such thing. On 2 September, the President met small-scale traders at State House. During that engagement, Ms. Njeri, a trader raised concerns about foreigners participating in small-scale retail and specifically referred to Chinese traders. She did not mention Burundians, and neither did the President. What followed was a direction that foreign nationals doing business in Kenya should be properly registered, licensed and compliant with Kenyan law, with a task force comprising the Trade CS, KRA and representatives of traders and MSMEs reporting back every ninety days. Somehow, registration became deportation and regulation became persecution. That distortion matters because real people became frightened. Our Constitution is clear: Article 27 protects every person equally before the law; Articles 28, 29 and 47 protect dignity, personal security and fair administrative action. But dignity does not abolish law. Section 34 of the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act still requires lawful immigration status, and our labour, licensing and business-registration laws remain in force. The EAC Common Market guarantees free movement, residence, labour and establishment, but it does not abolish the sovereignty of Partner States. Article 2(5) and 2(6) of our Constitution make international law and ratified treaties part of Kenyan law. Our regional obligations are real, but treaties must be read as laws, not chanted as slogans. Our Burundian brothers and sisters have, by and large, been good neighbours. They live among us, trade with us, worship with us and raise families among us. Where documentation is incomplete, the answer is humane regularisation, not panic or harassment. So when anyone says President Ruto ordered Burundians out of Kenya, ask one wonderfully simple question: where? Show us the sentence, the order, the directive. Kenya remains open. The Jumuiya remains our family. We can protect Kenyan livelihoods, enforce our laws, deepen regional integration and still remain humane. The House is scheduled to vote this week on a National Defense Authorization that would integrate our military tech & supply chains with Israel’s. Today, the Rules Committee will decide whether my amendment to strip section 219 will get a vote. RT to support the Massie amdt.!

I just voted to block sending $3.3 billion of our taxpayer dollars to Netanyahu’s government. It’s wrong on every level. I expect groups like AIPAC will not support me in my future elections and frankly, I don’t want their support. Hardline stances that refuse to stand up to a corrupt and increasingly dangerous Netanyahu regime have no place in our politics.

Gavin Newsom doesn’t think Israel is an apartheid state. Not only is it an apartheid state, but it is also a genocidal state. Newsom might as well end his presidential ambitions now, because if you cannot oppose genocide, then you belong nowhere near the presidency. Biden and Trump both support the genocidal state of Israel and it has resulted in nothing but death, destruction, and war. We are not doing this again.

NEW: I am officially a cosponsor of the Block the Bombs Act.  I initially supported the Ceasefire Compliance Act, which would have withheld offensive weapons from the Israeli government if it refused to change course in the West Bank and Gaza. Netanyahu refused. With that in mind, I believe that unconditional restrictions on our arms transfers, like those included in the Block the Bombs Act, are now necessary.  The United States simply cannot continue sending unconditional military aid to the Israeli government. We must work toward a two-state solution that ensures peace, security, and self-determination for both Israelis and Palestinians.

Progressives are winning because we have candidates willing to speak truth to power about Epstein, the billionaire class, the genocide in Gaza, taxing billionaires, and putting workers over AI.

The divide in Democratic party is not moderates vs progressives. It's between people who want to protect the status quo vs those who want transformative change. If you have done great under the current system, you want to protect the status quo. The rest of us want real change!

ARE WE STILL LIVING IN A DEMOCRACY? AIPAC, and other billionaire-funded super PACs, are preparing to spend tens of millions of dollars to defeat Dr. Abdul El-Sayed in the Michigan U.S. Senate race. Why are they so determined to defeat him? As a doctor, he believes in healthcare as a human right. He knows firsthand that our current healthcare system is broken and that we must pass Medicare for All. As a taxpayer, he understands that we should not be spending over a trillion dollars on the military and billions of dollars supporting the genocidal Netanyahu government in Israel. As a supporter of working families, he knows that we have to raise the minimum wage to a living wage and make it easier for workers to join unions. Whether it is AIPAC, AI or crypto, billionaire-funded super PACs will spend unlimited amounts of money to undermine democracy and defeat candidates who stand with working people and challenge their power. We cannot allow them to succeed. And that is precisely why we must do everything in OUR power to elect Abdul in the Michigan Democratic U.S. Senate primary on August 4. They have the money. We have the people. Let’s stand together and win.

Across the five boroughs, we’re opening hundreds of cooling centers, deploying outreach teams and COOL vans, extending pool hours, and preparing for flash flooding. As temperatures rise, I urge every New Yorker to make a plan, stay informed, check on your neighbors, and spend time in air-conditioned spaces whenever possible. If we prepare early and look out for one another, we’ll get through this together.
