Norway's General Election has produced a very proportional result. But theirs is a complex party list system with between 4 and 20 seats per constituency.
In the UK the public favours retaining single seat constituencies. PREVAIL is the solution for us.
Talk today about the % of wasted votes at the last election.
Under FPTP a vote for other than the winning candidate is completely wasted.
Under PREVAIL the winning candidate may have a low % but almost no votes are wasted - they count in Parliament.
PREVAIL is not just another PR voting system (of which there are many). Most PR systems are constituency focused wherein lies their unpredictability. PREVAIL puts Parliament first guaranteeing perfect PR. Almost all voters would be able to say their vote counted in Parliament.
Polly Toynbee's article in the Guardian yesterday shows that the quest for PR is rudderless and lacks knowledge and understanding of the issues and choices relating to PR. The public deserves better than this and needs it if an informed decision is to be made on PR.
A year on from Labour's election victory is clear more than ever that we need #PRNow.
The PREVAIL voting system will bring certainty and stability to UK politics.
With the latest Social Attitude Survey from National Centre for Social Research showing an all time high level of support (60%) for reforming the Westminster election system it is time for PREVAIL - redefining political representation for the 21st century.
With #FPTP the small constituency tail wags the large parliamentary dog. With the PREVAIL #PR voting system the large dog is in charge. It allows the tail to wag a little!
PREVAIL redefines political representation for the 21st century.
There is talk of a deal between the Conservatives and Reform to not stand against each other in the next election.
This denies the voters choice and is undemocratic.
Much better to introduce the PREVAIL #PR#PRnow voting system which rewards parties for standing in more seats.
Under PREVAIL each constituency would have a management committee chaired by the MP and with a representative from each elected party that stood in the constituency. This gives an extra voice for constituents to both their MP and their party in Westminster.
Under #FPTP if a candidate won a seat with 40% of the vote, the other 60% would be wasted.
Under #PREVAIL a candidate could win with 7% of the vote.
How is that better?
Because most of the other 93% would count towards their parties' quota in Parliament.
True representation.
The PREVAIL #PR system helps small parties. A party that comes first in at least one seat is guaranteed its full quota of seats (proportional to its total national vote).
In the GE 2024 PREVAIL would have given:
Green 45 seats
Reform 95 seats.
WE need #PR but here is why PREVAIL is better than STV:
1. Retains single seat constituencies (which polls show the public wants)
2. More reliable - guarantees perfect PR
3. Treats all votes equally - no 2nd, 3rd choices, etc
4. Simpler to comprehend.
With the PREVAIL #PR voting system virtually every voter is a shareholder in Parliament. This should ensure a greater sense of connection and engagement with the political process.
Under #FPTP, when you vote for a party and that party does not win the seat your vote is wasted. Under PREVAIL your vote will be carried through to parliament where it will directly influence the number of seats your party wins. This is true democracy!
Reform may be reaching critical mass under FPTP but the Greens will not. They will need PR to break through. PREVAIL is the best for the UK. It would have given them 45 sets at the last election.
Supporters of FPTP say PR produces a weak coalition government. But in this new five party world coalitions are inevitable. Better to have a proper PR system like PREVAIL which guarantees 100% PR in Parliament.
The final version of PREVAIL is here! Following feedback the transfer process is much simpler. After these recent elections we definitely need PREVAIL. Perfect PR from single seat constituencies guaranteed.
It does not matter which candidate is elected to a constituency. An elected member must serve all constituents equally.
What really matters is that the numbers elected to Parliament from each party are proportional to the popular vote. PREVAIL achieves this.
The public supports retention of single seat constituencies under PR. This is what PREVAIL offers and STV does not. PREVAIL can also guarantees perfect PR which no other system does.
