@paullewismoney The state is a pretty useless landlord. It fails to increase supply because it barely charges enough for maintenance. If it wants to drive private landlords away, it needs to support Councils in getting better at doing the job of private landlords.

@Oxford_Life @DaleVince That wasn’t Dale Vince’s point. The BoE, like the US and a number of Western nations, uses other risk-control mechanisms, not minimum reserve ratios. Applying reserves and charging for other deposits is no free-lunch for the state. That comes with economic and policy trade-offs.

It was no slam-dunk decision. I’m not ‘throwing neutrality’ at anyone, merely pointing out that Britain was among those to act.

@clairlemon AI doesn’t need to finance or build data centres to achieve a position where we can’t function without AI. We are doing all that work. We are enthusiastically funding data centres and dedicating more of their capacity to AI. There’s no easy way of stopping that.
