@1984_nate On what basis do you conclude that the Father no longer draws people to the Son nor that the Father has withdrawn from His role of giving people to the Son?

@MethodMinistry Ignatius of Antioch (c. 110 AD) "[Jesus Christ] died for us, that believing in His death you might escape death." (Letter to the Trallians) Justin Martyr (c. 150 AD) “He endured the sufferings for those who approach the Father through Him.” (Dialogue with Trypho, ch. 95)

@MethodMinistry If the Bible does teach the doctrine of penal substitution, why suggest that the "church" rejected this truth until the Reformation?

@MrCasey62 Two thoughts: All of these heresies mentioned were refuted by those who read Scripture for themselves. 2 Peter 3:16 doesn't say the Bible can't be understood, only that there are some challenging passages.

@riecker 1. Why substitute encountering God through Bible reading for having someone tell you what it means? 2. Why conclude that people all over the world who do the rituals you do means they believe what you believe? 3. Why assume the language of the apostles refers to the RCC?

@Ephesians_4_29 @rogerecoff Notice that the parable of the prodigal is one in a series of three: The shepherd who lost a sheep, a woman who lost a coin, and a man who lost a son. The point in all three is the same. To make the last about the son's coming to his senses how do you understand the first two?

@10isobsessed You would benefit from reading Owen's The Death of Death in the Death of Christ. It would help you understand the intent the Father and the Son had in His death.

@GenXguy23 @rogerecoff If "all are God's children," how do you understand Paul's referring to some as "children of wrath" (Eph 2:3) and Jesus' identifing some as children of the devil (John 8:44)?

@IMPERATORAUS @Bibliculture I believe authorial intent/meaning is accessible to readers (See Hirsch's Validity in Interpretation). The writings of good authors (as in the Bible) are understandable to attentive readers. Readers' perspectival "givenness" does not preclude access to authors' intent/meaning.

@augustiniser Without clarifying what you mean by the terms you use, this meme is ambigous. Is Mary the mother of the eternal Son who pre-existed her? Is Mary the Mother of the Triune God? Or is Mary the woman by whom the Spirit worked the miracle of the incarnation?

@catholicpat Show me in one post that you do not read Scripture well. Very unfortunate to suggest that the overwhelming witness of Scripture is considered a "misreading" of Paul.

@ChristinaD7166 @Catholic_bro Trent (XXII), Canons on the Mass, states the Mass is a true sacrifice, propitiatory in nature, where Christ is re-offered in a bloodless way. To say the Mass is but a memorial to Christ's sacrifice and not a propitiatory sacrifice offered by the priest, one is anathematized.

@BishopJaxi @CooperGMacBride Your comment on "sharing the same views as the early Church Fathers" doesn't clarify which Fathers you are referring to, overlooks the Fathers not being in full agreement on the issues you mention, and doesn't touch on what is essential for salvation.

@Martha99198913 Sadly, there are a lot of genuine Christians (followers of Jesus) who have never been led to understand that they can read the Bible for themselves! So, they don't. We'd like to do something about that. See theriverupstate.org
