"Follow your passion" sounds great until the rent is due. Better advice: Early on, follow opportunity. Stack skills. Build leverage. Get paid to learn. Too many young folks ignore the opportunity in front of them—chasing a dream they haven’t earned yet.

If you've got a friend who will tell it like it is, even when you don't want to hear it, hang on to that person. Sure, they'll piss you off from time to time, but they'll also save you a ton of heartache and misery in the long run. The trick is being able to listen.
