New signage for Eglinton station, many inconsistencies One line referred by name, one by directions. Transfers specified for Level 2, but not for Level 3 (lines are not on the same level)
Vital that this message is amplified, transit users value a consistent commute Lots of ongoing debate comparing future LRT vs current bus speeds, but many passengers place greater value on knowing their 30 mins commute is going to take 30 mins at any time of the day

Of all images from NYE crowd, this one is by far most dangerous and could've led to crowd crush. Pushing from behind can prevent these doors from being opened again, causing crush conditions in the moat. Never close pull doors in pushing conditions. I hope TTC thoroughly reviews
For those interested, the report on the Line 3 derailment has been published. Factors include the gradual loss of preventative maintenance, data migration concerns, questionable new anchor bolt design, "low" experience of track patrollers: cdn.ttc.ca/-/media/Projec…
Proposed routes as part of the 2024 Annual Service Plan published. Interesting to note that new wayfinding signage have already implemented these changes while they are concurrently seeking feedback on the plan.
@RM_Transit This is as far as we had gotten with a similar proposal. Goal was to put forward a viable approach to harmonize dynamic/in vehicle signage our approach to static
TTC is using silly temporary directional signs (see below) but since the green arrow is illuminated above (this is where people look to see if the gate is in or out) they are just ignoring them. This feels like a big waste of time, just change the LED screens, that’s the point!
More poor wayfinding placement. Line maps, which require people to stand+read, are placed at chokepoint (hence "Keep Moving" decal). Overhead sign barely visible until last steps of stairs, causing people to slow down on stairs to read. Solution: move all signs down the platform
Mount Dennis bus terminal signage being prepared. Looks like there'll be a 901 Airport-Eglinton Express Per bottom diagram, looks like this sign will be tucked away at the far east-end of the terminal out of sight from most passenger traffic, possibly poor wayfinding placement
Mockups for the new Station Capacity Project looks like a step in the right direction. Updated platform decal is improved. Prev design over-emphasized alighting position (which is not relevant to a customer on the platform), updated one focuses on where customers should stand.
Enhanced wayfinding and directional changes to fare gates coming soon to three stations. Sounds promising. ttc.ca/riding-the-ttc…
I would suggest that the problem isn't with the terminus-type signage, but rather, poorly placed or missing signage that must go alongside these types of signs. Most notably, the line-specific maps. I'm certain that most people have encountered examples of the "Reality" image.

@RM_Transit It's a federally designated historic site. Any/all suggestions are moot without Parks Canada authorization. There are specific restrictions as to what walls can have posters/advertising affixed to them versus not.
(2) If Andy Byford were still here, he would have been all over the morning news and would be giving running updates from the scene. Where is Rick Leary? For that matter where is chair @CllrJamaalMyers ?
@RM_Transit I would encourage you to verify this and understand the rationale. Incomplete information is harmful. Use your influence to find answers--you *will* get a response. Understanding issues in a fulsome way will help educate your viewers and lead to a more pragmatic discussion.
Of course, this stems from a larger issue around urbanist commentary that is based in a sort of ‘post hoc, ergo propter hoc’ worldview. Unfortunately this often betrays a lack of sufficient curiosity about factual details of a given issue, which limits adequate understanding.
Its so refreshing hearing this. This is exactly it. Speed is NOT the only factor that attracts riders. You need to balance speed, reliability and accessibility. Riders do not care about the fastest vehicle time
Vital that this message is amplified, transit users value a consistent commute Lots of ongoing debate comparing future LRT vs current bus speeds, but many passengers place greater value on knowing their 30 mins commute is going to take 30 mins at any time of the day
Today at the TTC Board, I presented about expanding our narrative on transit priority — it’s not always about speed but about variability. This is needed every day and all day. Reducing variability means people can depend on transit. cdn.ttc.ca/-/media/Projec…
This is 1,000% false. There was a steering committee with representation from all transit operators in the region. The concept of a single symbol to identify transit (as opposed to modal icons or letters, for example) was preferred by a majority of agencies. 1/2
@WBMetro62 @RM_Transit Secondary reason: Metrolinx did this with zero input / buy-in from local transit agencies. There was no attempt to bring them on board with the general idea or specific implementation before the announcement.
Spent some time tonight observing and listening to feedback at Kennedy Station tonight as folks transfer from Line 2 to buses extended from Scarborough Centre. Keeping track of potential adjustments and tweaks.
@RM_Transit What is the root cause of the current issues? What constraints prevent this from being implemented? What are the options to mitigate? What is the cost-benefit ratio? Where on a list of priorities does this rank? These questions need answers before such a plan is considered.
The TTC Board has approved the 2024 Annual Service Plan. Really proud of my team pulling this together through some dynamic times and look forward to implementing these changes. Will continue to articulate what service needs to better connect people and move this city.
It’s been a very dynamic couple of years and I’m proud that my team has completed the 2024 Annual Service Plan, outlining route changes to improve connections and other interim actions while the TTC develops its next 5-Year Service Plan. Check it out: cdn.ttc.ca/-/media/Projec…
Station names are finalized at the Board-level and are agreed by many stakeholders including operator staff, municipal staff, elected officials, city councils and the Ministry, and includes a clear rationale for each. If it's not aligned with your expectations, there's a reason.
Naming stations is a task that, despite what certain online forums would suggest, can't just be an exercise in repeating intersection names. It downloads too much responsibility onto a newcomer to know and understand the differences between things that sound a lot alike. 1/2
@RM_Transit Noted. These elements likely are slated for update for the opening of Mount Dennis; I'll see what we can do about reinstating them. No announcements has accessibility impacts.
@RM_Transit This is as far as we had gotten with a similar proposal. Goal was to put forward a viable approach to harmonize dynamic/in vehicle signage our approach to static

@redesigningTTC G‑d love you, but what was placed poorly was a decal (and – earlier, on a column – a sign), not “wayfinding,” which remains a process of the mind.
@redesigningTTC This is a perfect example of someone with a bright idea that throwing a few decals on the floor will make the station work better rather than looking at how it operates as a whole.
