The men voted her in as a joke. The joke made medical history. Elizabeth Blackwell was born on February 3, 1821, in Bristol, England. At 11, her family sailed for New York. At 17, her father died, and she started teaching to support the family. A dying friend told her a woman doctor would have spared her suffering. Blackwell decided to become one. School after school said no. In October 1847, at 26, Geneva Medical College in New York put her application to its 150 male students. One objection would block her. They voted yes, unanimously, as a prank. On January 23, 1849, at 27, she became the first woman to earn a medical degree in the United States. That November in Paris, while treating a newborn's eye infection, infected fluid splashed into her own eye. She lost it, and her dream of surgery with it. So she built her own doors. In 1857, at 36, she and her sister Emily opened the New York Infirmary for Indigent Women and Children. On January 1, 1859, she became the first woman on Britain's Medical Register. In 1874, at 53, she helped found the London School of Medicine for Women. She died on May 31, 1910, at 89, in Hastings, England. Today, more than half of America's medical students are women. It started with a vote nobody took seriously.

ELEVEN. 1. There is NO way any Secret Service agent worth a damn is letting him expose his entire head and torso again seconds after shots fired. 2. Those camera people were moved into position, and the flag was lowered into position, before the phot was taken 3. The magical ear, hell effing no. Not even a scratch, and not ONE reporter ever broached the subject, we were sold Grade A nonsense.
