Animals are intelligent agents that plan and act to accomplish complex goals. Can we try learning from them? We present EgoPet, a new ego centric video dataset of animals scraped from YouTube and TikTok.
We find that video models pre-training on EgoPet perform better on these tasks compared to video models trained on other larger ego datasets like Ego4D.

I think there's too much hype about the practical usefulness of large language models in the very short-term in some AI circles, and that some of the claims made just after ChatGPT was launched have ~been falsified, or are on the way to being falsified.
Somewhat niche but super interesting book. It reveals Leibniz's China interest as much more than an accidental polyhistorical digression, producing an informative projection of his philosophical system in the process.
Are the students are simultaneously responsible for anything in any rando says within a mile of the protest —apparently judging by the coverage of what happened *outside* Columbia Gates — and yet if they pick spokespeople to try to represent themselves, that’s their fault too?
Which functional organization in the world would prefer a journalist speak to a random member they pick as representative of the entire group, rather than a chosen spokesperson? I have a lot of material in my book about lack of spokespeople creating big problems for movements.
So they shouldn’t protest despite colleges celebrating past more disruptive activism; they should be held to higher standards of controlling the conduct of everyone even remotely associated compared to politicians in power; and should also display no agency over their message?
Let me add. Many past protests were extremely unpopular despite actually trying to appeal widely, and some widely popular ones lost. It’s not as straightforward as why don’t you strategize better? (Strategic agency is important for protest movement but popularity is complex).
@NateSilver538 But also you would be hard-pressed to find a notable protest movement that wasn’t hated by a large section of “normies” at the time — including ones that did really try to strategize to widen their appeal. It’s not saying protesters should ignore that, but this is the reality.
Iraq antiwar movement had many regular people and was popular, but some organizers were fringe weird groups which annoyed *me* greatly. It lost. In 1985, Columbia students occupied Hamilton Hall for *21 days* and got Columbia to be the first school to divest from South Africa.
@kind_inkind This is one of the technologies that startups work on. An aspiring startup hub can't ban some startups and not others. They're all related. Plus this legislation is a signal of the kind of anti-intellectual populism that the South already has a bad reputation for.
So much for the plan to turn Miami into a startup hub.
