Mastercard's First-Party Trust rolls out across Europe in July 2027. It can use order, delivery and authentication evidence when a buyer disputes a charge. For merchants, a “payment successful” screenshot is a thin record. Can you show what was delivered, and to whom?

Visa, BILL and Billtrust's 20 Oct pilot lets an AI agent pay an approved supplier invoice by card. For me, the test is the audit trail: which person approved the supplier, amount and invoice, and can finance stop a mismatch before the payment goes out?

Alaska Air Group’s Q3 2026: loyalty-program cash remuneration rose 21% to $721m, but the group reported a $147m net loss. It expects fuel costs $1.8bn above plan for the year. The points business is growing. Its fuel bill is growing faster.

Adyen processed €803.8bn in H1 2026. Its net revenue was €1.303bn: roughly €0.16 per €100 processed. A merchant’s card fee also pays the issuing bank and card network. Adyen’s share is only one part of that bill.

India started charging selected merchants for UPI payments above ₹2,000 on 15 Oct: 0.4%, capped at ₹300. A ₹3,000 payment costs ₹12. A ₹100,000 payment costs ₹300, not ₹400. For large-ticket merchants, the cap matters as much as the rate.

A refund reverses the sale, but not every cost. Braintree says it keeps the original transaction fee when a merchant refunds a payment. If your rate is 3%, 50 fully refunded $100 orders still cost $150 in processing fees. That's before return shipping.

Under Stripe's standard US pricing, a $100 domestic online card payment costs $3.20 to process. With an international card and currency conversion, it's $5.70. Run 1,000 of those orders and the difference is $2,500.

Delta says its 2027 status requirements are unchanged. After the $2,500 MQD headstart, earning the remaining 2,500 MQDs entirely through card spend takes $25,000 on a Delta Reserve or $50,000 on a Delta Platinum. That is just for Silver.

United's new 1K rule hits the frequent flyer buying cheaper tickets. In 2026, 60 qualifying flights + 22,000 PQP is one route. In 2027, flight count won't help; it's 32,000 PQP. That's 10,000 more PQP if your spending stays the same. Delta's 2027 MQD thresholds are unchanged.

Visa finally has preliminary approval for domestic card clearing in China. It has up to a year to prepare, then must apply for a final licence. Visa has waited since 2015. Meanwhile, UnionPay, Alipay and WeChat Pay became the payment habit it now has to compete with.

Supplier A wants $100k today. B wants $101k in 45 days. At a 12% annual cost of cash, those 45 days are worth about $1,480. B is roughly $480 cheaper before FX and supplier risk. An AI buying agent comparing invoice totals would pick A.

A US bill would let merchants route credit-card payments over a cheaper network. Banks say rewards could shrink. That’s plausible. Lower processing revenue leaves less money to fund points. What isn’t guaranteed is that merchants pass all the savings back to customers.
