11 September 2001. By the end of that terrible day, nearly 3,000 innocent lives were lost. Passengers, crew, emergency responders, office workers: all had set out that morning with only good intentions. 25 years on, they are mourned by their families, friends and the wider world.

@Tigersimon1967 Under air passengers’ rights rules, travellers whose flights are cancelled are entitled to be flown to their destination as soon as possible on any airline, and to be provided with meals and hotels until they get there. No limit other than costs must be reasonable, and no alcohol

Miami airport is closed after an Amazon Prime Air cargo plane overshot the runway. Inbound flights from London diverted: British Airways and Virgin Atlantic to Orlando, American Airlines to Charlotte. BA has cancelled this evening's flight from Miami; Virgin hopes to fly out late

Around two dozen cancellations to/from Gatwick, almost all easyJet serving Milan, Corfu, Zurich, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Munich, Geneva, Lisbon, Nantes and a couple to Paris CDG. Also Norwegian departures to Bergen and Copenhagen grounded; after diversions, the planes flew back empty

21 flights diverted to airports as far away as Birmingham and Bournemouth. Retrieving those aircraft will cause further disruption for the rest of the day in the shape of delayed operations. Some flights may, I fear, be cancelled, which is the last thing we need on a busy Friday.

Gatwick airport's runway has reopened after a 50-minute closure "due to a technical issue with a departing aircraft". The Norse Boeing 787 to New York aborted its take off halfway down the runway, where it remained for 37 minutes until it was towed away and the runway inspected.

They slept the first night on the Palma airport floor. After I contacted easyJet on their behalf, the company found earlier flights via Belfast. Airline: “We take our responsibilities to our customers very seriously, providing support, meals and accommodation wherever possible.”

@ram1tj easyJet and British Airways are still selling seats for Sunday (see screenshots🔽) But probably the best option is rail via Paris. Seems to be a reasonable amount of availability at around €500 on Saturday. easyJet must pick up the bill, as air passengers’ rights rules require.
