I’ve been thinking about some things. Clinical PsyD - trauma, ptsd, identity and self-as-context. Tulsa, Denver, Houston, LAselfstudied.com Los Angeles, CAJoined November 2020
@sheekooleekoo@LosAngeles_Scan I don’t think so. I know the evac there was v serious but my kids school is there and no fire reports from the community yet
@JonVigliotti These people were in standstill traffic. When the fire approached officials had them evacuate their cars and they had to run about .5 miles to the beach
Every day people with eyes and hearts open actually try to contend with this living hell, while all of y’all kill w/ closed minds and hard hearts push society to ever more bewildering levels of bad faith and denial, practically guaranteeing bad outcomes for all of us #JordanNeely
It’s diagnostic of this society that more people condemn research based solutions like mental healthcare and housing than condemn public murder. #JordanNeely
The drive to conduct antiracist research has never been stronger.
So, I and my colleagues are proud to share some of our 10 guiding principles for your antiracist research, drawn from our recent article in @JournalSSWR 🧵 1/7
@jdesmondharris Take the job for the lucky thing that it is and use the time for prosocial things and self-development. He should have goals, creative endeavors, things to learn, and more balance than just games. He can use a therapist to id goals and give the whole thing structure
@DrWinarick In some instances it might function this way, in all cases it’s just the most expedient way to break up unhelpful patterns. Interesting that you assume the function of the new behavior could only be defense
@nonbinarybooty Some of y’all have the human empathy part down - but can we quit assuming every homeless person has an addiction? Sure that’s part of it and those people don’t get the right support but this is a false, biased, unhelpful assumption
@CD5LosAngeles@MayorOfLA I would love to see long-term outcomes. Why doesn’t LA do what Houston did to reduce how many of their population was homeless? Agencies, orgs, and the city working together makes a ton of sense
@Ragcha@CD5LosAngeles@MayorOfLA What’s scary? I walk in and through pan pacific every day with my kid. The unhoused pplkeep to themselves 99% of the time. If you see someone unhoused/mentally unwell/addicted be afraid of the systems that cause us to forsake our humanity and blame them for it instead of helping
@MadilynnBeck @RaeRenee731 That’s one of the four horsemen of the marriage apocalypse. He coded things like eye rolling and in his studies that increased likelihood of divorce
@therapiworks I agree. It’s also far too expensive for the therapist to act like a secret power holder who doesn’t do much but swears that they are. There’s huge pitfalls on both sides of the theoretical divide.
If limited interaction with the targeted comm. is not the case, like with the Memphis cops, the cult like repetition about risk/danger and dehumanization is near constant and therefore unfortunately enough to result in something like this #TyreNichols
this means skin tones and cultural elements they have no other interactions with become cues to enter fight-or-flight. And they’re not allowed by job description and community norms to do flight
Can we talk about how police training, norms, and on-the-job trauma has a cult like effect on officers? How a beats model effectively makes cops racist? No reform is earnest because it never addresses the fundamental flaws #TyreNichols
BREAKING: The 5 former Memphis Police Department officers have been indicted by a grand jury on charges ranging from second-degree murder, aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, official misconduct and official oppression for the death of Tyre Nichols.
