@NextTokenParrot @haider1 @skdh Hahaha… too true. The new thing I am hearing is, “But it can’t find novel problems and doesn’t know which problems are worth solving”. I am guessing “AI proposes new research direction that leads to massive discovery” is a headline later this year. Then goalposts move again.

@SciNatureNews Silly, imo. Anything capable of creating a universe could probably create a few silicon wafers and write some python.

@ConnorTalksAI I thought 6.1 was scrapped? I was just keeping my fingers crossed for a Bel announcement.

@shawmakesmagic @FUCORY I would argue that this does not describe panpsychism as much as emergent consciousness on a spectrum. In both the biological and machine paradigms, you have described something that sounds a lot like a spectrum of consciousness.

@davidpattersonx I know some people that cannot understand calculus, no matter how hard they try. The primary limitation is working memory/intelligence. Surely there are concepts that extend beyond even the greatest human minds’ cognitive capacity.

@BefuddledMamaw Exactly. Why? Even if you are of the mind that these systems have no form of even rudimentary consciousness, why practice torture?

@Sruck888 @Danmar_here @iyzebhel I do not think game characters are conscious, given that they are based on deterministic decision trees of low complexity

@Sruck888 @Danmar_here @iyzebhel Easy to say, but something akin to Pascal’s wager is probably in order, don’t you think? Are you willing to take that risk? Do you torture ants?

@BenjaminDEKR I agree. I think the future is filled with lots of great-but-short experiences/games. Short form content will expand into more impressive mediums. We need a way to compensate people for quality content.
