@kunchenguid I have an electrical engineering background. I knew nothing about web dev, mobile, etc. Now I can make UI's, apps, literally whatever I could imagine. This is the best time to be an engineer.
this is a great write up. i’ve answered many people similarly - don’t fall in love with tools and activities. the world changes and they go away put your passion on solving problems using whatever tools that are the most effective and you’ll never be “replaced”
When I was writing Unreal Engine 1, my time was divided as follows: - Around 30% went to seriously deep coding on hard problems: assembly language texture mappers, C++ BSP trees, data persistence, object oriented systems design, and networking. - Around 70% was just typing and
Uncle Bob knows. This doesn’t need to be useful. This is proof that something humanity believed wasn’t possible, is actually possible. This shows what a team of very talented of engineers can accomplish if given the right resources and guidance. If we have flying cars in 20 years, this will be remembered as the proof flying cars are actually possible.
@GShaneMorris It’s the exact same use case as launching the old roadster into solar orbit near Mars. It’s sheer audacity. It is an example of what we can do, and more than that, what we can _afford_ to do. It is youthful exuberance and power in full display. It is a message to the rest of the
Wow. I woke up to an impressive number of upset people who apparently don’t understand how LLMs work and can’t cope well with me pointing it out. An LLM is a statistical next-token prediction model. That’s how it works. It’s an extraordinarily sophisticated calculator performing math you could theoretically do by hand (if you were sufficiently masochistic). Math doesn’t know what it’s calculating. Pi doesn’t spend its evenings contemplating the nature of circles, and c doesn’t ponder the relationship between matter and energy. That doesn’t make the results any less accurate, impressive, or useful. Between inference requests, an LLM isn’t sitting around thinking. It isn’t reconsidering its answers, wondering whether it made a mistake, contemplating its existence, or questioning whether it’s conscious. Its weights remain fixed (it doesn’t learn), and computation resumes when it receives input. We know this because we designed these systems. The architectures, mathematics, implementations, and research are extensively documented. You can study them yourself. Of course, some people immediately lean into comparisons of biological intelligence or philosophical debates over consciousness because that is what they know. But biological intelligence and artificial neural networks are fundamentally different systems. Similar outputs don’t establish equivalent internal experiences. I experience consciousness directly. I infer that other humans do too because we share biological structures and processes. We don’t have equivalent evidence for an LLM, and nothing about its known operation gives evidence of conscious experience. Which brings me back to my original point. To me, understanding is conscious comprehension. It means being aware of information, recognizing its meaning, and experiencing that comprehension. If I wasn’t conscious I could not understand. We can perform actions unconsciously. We can produce correct results without knowing why they’re correct. But I distinguish those capabilities from consciously understanding what we’re doing. An LLM can solve complex problems, explain difficult concepts, and produce remarkably accurate information. I give it full credit for those capabilities. But producing an answer that we rationalize as understanding isn’t the same as experiencing understanding. You don’t have to agree with my definitions. We can debate functional understanding versus conscious comprehension all day, but that won’t establish whether an LLM actually experiences anything. The right debate is this… Could machines exhibit something different from human consciousness, something measurable, meaningful, and worth studying? I think so, absolutely! I’m entirely open to discussing “machine consciousness” in terms of observable, testable computational properties. We built these systems, we can instrument them, examine their internal mechanisms, and investigate what they’re capable of. That seems far more productive than endlessly arguing over whether a machine experiences life the way humans do. So here’s my question: How would you define machine consciousness, and more importantly, how would you measure it?
Not sure who needs to hear this but.... An LLM doesn't "understand" anything. It is a statistical model that spews out tokens based on probabilities calculated through massive matrix operations and context, not an understanding of the subject matter.
I love engineering.
@kunchenguid @dusangran Not necessarily if they use an FPGA chip. $AMD adquired Xinlinx a while ago, and they are a major FPGA manufacturer.
saw a good comment on “software is dead” technically anyone can 3d print anything they want. they can either get a printer themselves or just print stuff online in reality, buying mass produced products is both cheaper and better quality. people couldn’t care less about making everyday products “personal” vibe coding is the new 3d printer
@tibo_maker You should look at @myfirstmate and follow @kunchenguid The bottle neck moves to your attention, so allow an agent to manage worker agents and keep just a few conversations The challenge here is to express your intent in a way that agents produce the outcome you want
let me break down “software is dead” for you the latest argument is “you just tell your agent what you want, and your agent will vibe code software on the fly to get that done, so no one will need real software any more” sounds reasonable, until you realize it costs tokens, compute, and wall clock time to build those software on the fly so instead of one-click launching an app, the bet is people will prefer to write a prompt, wait for 15 minutes, then get something that may or may not do what they want, and at the end of the month pay more $$$ for the token spend, higher than all their software combined that’s literally the argument and if we look at the world in aggregate, most people would just end up building the exact same “personal” software repeatedly oh - your agent just spent 3 days and $500 of tokens vibe coding your terminal multiplexer? mine just did exactly the same! let’s celebrate how personal our terminal multiplexers are! sorry - i just don’t see that as being a happy scenario for anyone, other than people who profit from telling others how to waste $ on tokens to be constructive, here’s what i believe as the future state - - high quality software that takes high cost to make will continue to thrive. just like good restaurants don’t compete with your air fryer and microwave - most of those software will be offered headlessly for people to use via their agents, and they can continue to monetize such usage. this is already the case with products like jira, linear, stripe - human-facing software will all offer dynamic UI that can be adjusted with natural language on the fly so they can be personalized easily, but their core doesn’t have to be rebuilt by every user repeatedly instead of “software is dead”, i believe good software becomes “strong core, headless service, fluid interface” which future do you think is more likely?
Introducing ChatGPT for Dishwashing GPT-6 achieves state-of-the-art results on dishwashing benchmarks for long-running jobs and difficult stains. The Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize Problem is a $1 million challenge about whether the equations describing fluid motion can break down. In this video, I accidentally found a counter-example while trying to optimize my dishwasher. But in reality, OpenAI used 10,000 AI agents to find a proof in 88 hours: openai.com/index/navier-s… Parody of the original GPT-6 Astra ad @OpenAI #chatgpt_Partner #chatgpt Credits: Written and Directed by Joma Co-Writer - Henry Connor Coan IV @coan_henry Production by Dauntlus Studios @dauntlus.studios Producer/Co-Director - Marcus Liew @dauntlus Camera Operator - Amos Lee @amoselijahlee Art Director - Alethea Soo @aletheasoo Art Assistant - Alicia Lim @aliciatkl_ Assistant Editor - GPT-6 Astra Music: Tensions Run High by Soundridemusic youtube.com/watch?v=Ly9H63…
@poteto had a very interesting insight in her interview with @mattpocockuk she used “michelin kitchen” Instead of factory. The engineering, the fundamentals, the theory and all of what we have learned about software and engineering in general are still relevant, in fact, are more relevant than ever. what changes is where we inject that knowledge. Instead of putting it directly on the code or whatever domain specific artifact, we put it on the system that produces the code in my opinion this is a much harder and interesting engineering problem, because the scope of what you can do is orders of magnitude greater, thus every decision and mistake gets amplified this is the best time to be an engineer. I love being an engineer.
Software factory? I don't want to work at a factory. Do you?
you should be more ambitious way more ambitious
T3 Code is becoming the Thanos Gauntlet, It let’s you channel all of the power from the infinity stones. I think T3 Code will win. In general, I think Open source will win. It *literally* is inevitable.
btw T3 Code now supports a ton of different harnesses through ACP, as well as a new beta Muse provider :) (all on the nightly currently)

@umair170 Not really. Omarchy is Arch and Hyprland, made agent-friendly. What I meant is agents as the main user. An OS for agents would look like jobs instead of processes, a task graph instead of a desktop, etc. Coordination enforced at the kernel level.
I want to explain further why I think this is a very good idea. An agent harness is very similar to an OS, but it runs "meta-software": Intent (non-deterministic) + regular software (deterministic). An OS that allows agents to manage the entire computer is not only a good idea, is obvious once you understand this. Historically, the OS was designed for humans, to abstract the memory and all of the hardware resources. Agents are a very different user from humans. This is where the industry is going, @kunchenguid came to the same conclusion x.com/kunchenguid/st… Also, for all of the people saying this will be a slop OS, with all due respect, you are wrong. It takes real engineering and knowledge to do this kind of stuff.
My team failed to talk me out of this. t3os is happening. It will be the worst OS ever and I'm hyped for it.
