WhatsApp vs iMessage is the new metric vs imperial. The entire world uses WhatsApp, save a few people who are iPhone-clutching Americans or from a country where WhatsApp is banned (like China). Yet iMessage users will actually claim it's objectively better, just like they will claim that Farenheit is intrinsically better than Celsius and inch better than cm, whereas it's just that they grew up with it.

@ylecun I trust Apple not Facebook due to the business model. Facebook model is selling your data. Apple selling you iPhone and services.
@ylecun The advantage of Farenheit is that a degree is closer to the smallest perceptual difference for most humans. The advantage of inches is that 12 has more whole-number factors than 10. Both of these are terrible unit systems for anything scientific.
@ylecun The privacy concerns differ. Apple has a paranoid stance on privacy defying back door requests. It has on-device focus. It owns the device. iMessage works on all iPhones globally.
@ylecun Nobody trusts the company you work for…that’s why.
@ylecun In fairness, fahrenheit is better. The rest of what you said is true though.
