1/ The “bunker mode” advice (keep pubkeys behind hashes, avoid address reuse) is sensible hygiene. But the premise, ECDSA falling “in months”, doesn’t follow from the evidence cited. A fact-check 🧵 2/ True: OpenAI disproved Erdős’ unit-distance conjecture and released 722 manuscripts. But discrete geometry ≠ ECDLP. The best known attack on secp256k1 is still Pollard rho, ~2^128 group operations. “Key recovery in a week” would need a fundamentally new algorithm, not incremental progress. 3/ Schoof, Frobenius, pairings are decades-old tools, not new threats. MOV needs a small embedding degree; secp256k1’s is huge. And ECDSA isn’t “security through obscurity”: the algorithm is public, security rests on ECDLP hardness. 4/ Ewin Tang dequantized low-rank, sampling-based algorithms. Shor is period finding, a different structure, and nobody has dequantized it. A “classical Shor that breaks ECC and RSA at once” is speculation. 5/ Missing caveat: “fresh address” isn’t automatically safe. Taproot (bc1p) puts the pubkey on-chain from day one, and sharing an xpub exposes all non-hardened child pubkeys. Hash-hiding only works for hashed outputs with no xpub leak. 6/ Also unverified: “n log n multiplication fell” (no preprint found; n log n is an upper bound, the lower bound is still a conjecture). 3SUM fell only for real inputs. “No crypto in 722 papers = censorship” isn’t evidence. Prepare, don’t panic.
