Orwell read the Bible - these prophesies predated Orwell by 2000 years. The Bible warned long ago: through greed and deceit, they will “make merchandise of you” (2 Peter 2:3). In the end, even “slaves, and souls of men” would be bought and sold (Revelation 18:13). Orwell saw the same truth in Animal Farm - the loyal are worked to death, then sold for profit while the powerful rewrite the rules. God knew human nature would produce this.
