@El_Doorknob @PaulKetchley Once you realise a tax with no corresponding benefit is just theft, the penny will drop. Paul is right. Pensions are not benefits. Contributions confer a right to future income. How the state pension is funded is irrelevant. The fact there is no fund is irrelevant.

@Christi09787198 @TerraOrBust It’s a good question. Anything energy or labour intensive would be my guess. Shipbuilding, coal mining, textiles? That’s what was there before. Can’t see any of that in Britain’s future without major subsidy.

@eefnews Even an average data centre uses the same amount of water as 1000 houses. And that’s with present technologies. Food for thought for all those still on hosepipe bans / suffering water supply interruptions.
