I'm gonna tell y'all a story. In 2006, my brother passed away. I grieved for a couple of weeks, and then I walked that shit off. In 2009, out of nowhere, I suddenly lost my ability to drive on the highway. It was weird, but I just couldn't do it. The anxiety was overwhelming...

the names are similar (or cut across) because unlike other tribes only the Bakonzo and Barundi have a naming system based on birth order. you can always be sure that me (Kambale) and @TheMutaD (Bwambale) are the 2nd born males in our respective families. you can always be sure that @sammhindo (Muhindo) follows a lady in the family. for a quick review, here is the list of our surnames based on birth order: males 1. Mumbere (if all grandparents are alive at the time of birth), Baluku (if one or more are dead) 2. Bwambale (and its variants - Kambale or Mbale), Mbaju 3. Masereka, Maate, Marahi, Maghulhinga 4. Kule, Walina 5. Thembo 6. Mbusa 7. Ndungo/Ndungu females 1. Musoki (same reason as Mumbere), Masika, Kanyere (if the parents were virgins when they met) 2. Biira, Kabiira 3. Kabugho, Kaswera 4. Mbambu, Kahambu 5. Ithungu 6. Kakyimwa 7. Nzyabake Muhindo/Kahindo (mostly for males) and Mbindule (mostly for females, tho most now use Muhindo) is a unique name that signifies change of sex. if you had a Masika, a Biira, and your third child is a boy, it means there's been a change of sex, and so, the boy becomes Muhindo. same happens when you had a boy(s) and a girl emerges. Nyangoma/Nyakato are female twin names Nguru/Ndobya (tho we now use Isingoma/Kato) are male twin names Kiiza is the next one following the twins. we also have circumstantial names like when a child follows a dead one.. and religion-inspired names. @sammhindo has written about this in the Observer here: observer.ug/lifestyle/7251…
