Proud Canadian patriots refusing to sell small strips land to HSR so they can participate in the time honored tradition of selling all their land to build more suburban sprawl
🚨 BREAKING: Farmers are rising up against the Liberals $90 Billion high-speed train, Alto project!
The Carney government is seizing their land here in Rigaud, Quebec and many are not happy. Follow my posts for live updates on the ground today.
Full report to follow.
"I’m concerned that ideas like Heritage American arise in part because we’ve created a vacuum. By not instilling a robust sense of what it means to be a citizen of the United States and a patriot in our younger generation, we’ve allowed malignant people and malignant ideas to fill the void. They’ve turned something good — an interest in our roots and pride in our families — into something dark." nytimes.com/2026/09/20/opi…
Good. This outcome shouldn't surprise anyone. But we can't overlook Trump's recklessness. He's destabilizing our country by trying these stunts. Millions of Republicans will be mad at SCOTUS (again) when they should be mad at Trump (again).
BREAKING: SCOTUS leaves in place lower-court injunction against new Postal Service mail-in ballot rule, saying the government is unlikely to succeed in challenging it. Alito/Thomas dissent. documentcloud.org/documents/2862…
@JeremiahDJohns What’s more, the same study also found that more demanding standards-based exit exams were associated with higher incarceration rates…
It points to another reason to question whether making the Regents exams a graduation requirement does more good than harm.
@JeremiahDJohns There doesn’t seem to be good evidence to suggest that high-school exit exams help students in any meaningful way, however.
NBER found that demanding exit exams reduce graduation rates, and have no consistent effects on employment or wages:

I've been thinking a lot about the far-left fury over James Talarico saying he might not support trans women in sports.
I think if you want to understand why this type of reaction exists, you need to understand Tetlock's concept of 'sacred values'. (a short thread)
One problem I have with the progressivism I encounter in Toronto is it just seems so focused on maintaining amenities for a small crowd.
"The annex is nice more people should be able to live here!" "..."
"The Toronto islands are great it should be easier to get here" "..."
This is where urban progressivism can become strangely exclusionary.
If we believe walkable neighbourhoods, parks, transit, etc., are public goods, then policy should EXPAND access to them.
Why preserve scarcity to benefit mainly those already fortunate enough to live nearby?

Sunstein raises an important point: debates over interpretation can’t simply be resolved by defining “interpretation” in a way that presupposes originalism.
Establishing a constitutional provision’s original meaning does not answer why it should shape constitutional law today.
🚨NEW STUDY DROP🚨
New Therizinosaur is named Kayrasaurus from Early Cretaceous Jehol Biota. It's a NEARLY COMPLETE skeleton of an immature animal larger than all its contemporaries WITH A COMPLETE SKULL!!!!

I think AVs like Waymo and Cybercab are incredible. Anything that removes both cellphone distracted humans and parking spots from our cities is aweseome.
BUT, the geometry problem still stands for getting large numbers of people in/out of cities. Trains still mog cars at this.
