Molina way lower (great D, BELOW average hitter), most of all, where's Thurm? That's ROY, MVP, great D, great hitting, amazingly clutch, twice-world-champion Thurm!

@BBGreatMoments Ripken had a 112 OPS+ lifetime, around the 700th best in MLB history! The Mick's was 172; the 9th best in MLB history. Only a Baltimoron would believe Ripken above Mantle. And most others below also. In this, by all metrics, Ripken is a D. Nothing shameful there.

@podoffame @baseball_ref Even The Mick didn't know how great he was. When he quit because (he said) he "couldn't hit anymore," he just had an OPS+ of 143, so 43% better than average. In fact, only a few dozen MLB players in history had a higher LIFETIME OPS+ than Mantle's last "can't hit anymore" year.

@BBGreatMoments After 1980, he had a chance for 3,000 hits and the HOF. He chose to pinch-hit for the Mets for 5 years instead, so he could hang at the bar he owned in NYC. Interesting choice. (But I hung there too; great bar.)

@on_this_day100 I saw Ben Stiller post that he was there in the RF upper deck with his dad. (LF upper for me.) I tried to reach out through X and Instagram, but nothing yet.

@on_this_day100 I don't believe it was immediately. We stayed for a short bit, and I remember it playing as we were walking down the ramps and out of the stadium. (Not like today, ha.) Ah, well, maybe somebody can help someday.

@nut_history Gorgeous. I named my son Mickey and had to fight 2 families to do that. Not Michael or Mikey, but Mickey, ha. And no, not Gordon, which was Mickey Cochrane's real name. (Mutt named his son after his favorite player. Good thing he didn't know, or we might have Gordon Mantle.)

@SleeperYankees Not only did he win the 163-game playoff, but he also had TWO 2-hit shutouts against the Red Sox in consecutive September starts! No one in baseball history has ever affected a pennant race more directly. Funny, the idiots voted Rice (who had a chance to win 163 but failed) MVP.

@on_this_day100 Yes, I was there. I've searched, and there is no footage or audio (at least I haven't found any) of the field right after the game. Everything I found cuts to the clubhouse celebration. My buddy who was there with me has passed (not that he would remember). I'll keep trying tho.

@on_this_day100 Yes, and man, I've been trying to find anyone else for a while; I hoped the anniversary would turn someone up. I've been posting and posting. No luck yet.

@MarkWerling5 @mroctober Help!! At the 1977 World Series, Game 6, I'm SURE I remember We Are the Champions (Queen) playing right after the game. Now, it's always used; that was the 1st time. (Released here 2 weeks earlier.) I can't find any footage or recording. If anyone was there, please confirm this.
