The average median age of a church planter at the start date of the plant has gone from 36 years old to 42 years old from 2007 to 2022. (ECFA research involving 50+ denominations as reported by Warren Bird, PhD) What is your hypothesis for this increase?
Church planting isn’t about short term gains. For me, it’s been 21 years. Church planters, God is doing things right away! But you might not notice the fruit for years to come. Stick with it, He is moving.
This is the team right here! These are the 17 Metro Dist. Church Planters. We had an incredible retreat this weekend to pray, hang, strategize, laugh and pave the way for the next season of Church Planting. I’m so proud of these guys. Great things are ahead! #churchplanting
I had a great meeting with a church planting couple on Long Island. It’s great to have the ability to help planters in my own backyard! I don’t know if it’s because of my new position, but there certainly seems to be a resurgence of people praying about starting new churches.
We had a beautiful time of prayer & worship last night at CenterPoint. There is power & freedom in saying “Jesus forgive me”.
I have my Life Group/small group this AM. I find it so important for me as the Lead Pastor to be in a group of regular people of the church. Not staff. Not leaders. Just people that are part of the church that want to grow in faith & relationships. Love these guys.
I do love (most of the time) being a pastor (except for the times I don’t). I’ll stop being so profound 🤣.
Only as my kids are now older do I realize how challenging it was to have this crazy schedule and little kids. Pastors with kids, hear me, your most productive time in ministry will be after 50! Invest in your kids, do your best at the church & know the future looks bright!
I’ve been trying to find a new hire for a position at my church. Good pay, good benefits, really it’s a great job! But I can’t find anyone interested because we are in NY. As I think through church planters for NY/NJ, most are currently in our churches. Praying for new planters!
Why plant a new church instead of leading an established congregation? Because God is starting something fresh in you and through you! This isn’t hubris, this is being faithful.
Time to get the appropriately aged profile picture. I appreciate how I looked 15 years ago, but who am I kidding!

The Pharisees were spectacular in their ability to condemn sinners. They were the moral police, blind guides that didn't realize they too were morally corrupt. Pharisees are still among us. But so is Jesus.
Jesus had a mission- to seek and save the lost. As a church on mission with Jesus, our job is not to avoid or condemn the lost, but to invite them in. The love of Christ is the most powerful thing the world has seen and it’s just too good not to share! @BrianMcMillanNY
