For working-space depth, mark voltage to ground and the condition across from the equipment before choosing a table value. Do not jump to an answer from panel voltage alone. Reference: NEC 2023 110.26(A)(1), Table 110.26(A)(1).
Answer: A. 2.00 cubic inches. A 14 AWG conductor allowance is 2.00 cubic inches. Box capacity must cover all counted conductors and applicable fittings. Reference: NEC 2023 Table 314.16(B).
Can you explain this?
What is the general box-fill volume allowance for one 14 AWG conductor?
A. 2.00 cubic inches
B. 2.25 cubic inches
C. 2.50 cubic inches
D. 1.50 cubic inches

Do not use one slope for every drain size. The general minimum for horizontal drainage piping 2½ inches or smaller is ¼ inch per foot; for 3 through 6 inches it is ⅛ inch per foot. Read the correct row. Reference: IPC 2021 Table 704.1.
Answer: B. An unobstructed vertical separation between the outlet and the receptor flood-level rim. A properly sized air gap physically separates the potable outlet from the receiving vessel and protects against reverse contamination. Reference: 2021 IPC Chapter 2, Air Gap
Can you explain this?
What is an air gap in potable-water backflow protection?
A. A check valve hidden in a faucet
B. An unobstructed vertical separation between the outlet and the receptor flood-level rim
C. The space inside a trap
D. Any flexible hose loop

@r1kilowatt@_ROB_29 For a typical wall receptacle, NEC 2023 doesn't prescribe ground-up vs. ground-down. Listed equipment must still follow its included instructions (110.3(B)). Orientation alone doesn't tell you whether an outlet is switched.
Confirm the code edition allowed by your exam provider before test day. Practice looking up definitions instead of guessing what familiar terms mean. Start with NEC 2023 Article 100; your provider bulletin governs exam rules.
Answer: C. Condition 2. Condition 2 has exposed live parts on one side and grounded parts on the other. For 151–600 V to ground, the table depth is 3.5 feet. Reference: NEC 2023 Table 110.26(A)(1).
Can you explain this?
A 480 V panel has nominal voltage to ground of 277 V and grounded surfaces opposite exposed live parts. What table condition applies?
A. Condition 3
B. Condition 1
C. Condition 2
D. No working-space condition applies below 600 V

A separate electrode is not a substitute for bonding the grounding electrode system. Qualifying electrodes present at the building must be bonded together as required. Reference: NEC 2023 250.50.
Answer: A. 12 psi per 100 ft. Normalize the pressure allowance by length: 18/150 × 100 = 12 psi per 100 ft. Select pipe using an applicable method and flow rate. Reference: Trade math — friction-loss allowance per 100 feet.
Can you explain this?
A water path has 18 psi available for friction over 150 feet of equivalent length. What average friction-loss allowance is available per 100 feet?
A. 12 psi per 100 ft
B. 8.33 psi per 100 ft
C. 27 psi per 100 ft
D. 18 psi per 100 ft

Answer: B. 10,500 VA. General lighting is 2000 × 3 = 6000 VA. Add two 1500 VA small-appliance allowances and one 1500 VA laundry allowance: total 10,500 VA before demand factors. Reference: NEC 2023 220.41; 220.52.
Can you explain this?
A 2,000 ft² dwelling has two small-appliance circuits and one laundry circuit. What undemanded standard-method lighting-and-small-appliance/laundry subtotal resuls?
A. 6,000 VA
B. 10,500 VA
C. 9,000 VA
D. 12,000 VA

On a trap question, distinguish the seal depth from the trap-arm run. Find the rule for the dimension actually asked about before doing arithmetic. Reference: IPC 2021 1002.4; 909.1 and Table 909.1.
Answer: C. 30 inches. Width is the equipment width or 30 inches, whichever is greater. The space need not be centered on the equipment, but doors must open at least 90 degrees. Reference: NEC 2023 110.26(A)(2).
Can you explain this?
A 30-inch-wide panel requires a minimum working-space width of what dimension?
A. 24 inches
B. 36 inches in every case
C. 30 inches
D. Twice the panel width

Do not size a general motor feeder by just adding motor currents. Start with 125% of the highest-rated motor full-load current, then add the other motor currents and applicable other loads. Reference: NEC 2023 430.24.
