One way survivors are baited is when an abuser pretends to show interest to get them to share vulnerable information. Once they share, the abuser goes silent. This is intentional to get a survivor to doubt their reality & seek comfort from the person who has made them most afraid

A lot of times a trauma survivor has a difficult time with self-love and self-care. Not because they don’t want to love and care for themselves, but because they have a large capacity to love and care well for others and that’s where they’ve gotten hurt quite often.
Want to curtail clergy abuse? Just ask: Can I see the governing documents, past six board meeting minutes, a two-year expenditure database, and the last three audits (not just statements)? If they say no, that's your answer when asked to give. Abuse thrives in secrecy.
