Unlike the upside surprise in August, where you could identify larger idiosyncratic increases, the miss on core CPI in September was more broadly based. Core goods printed at +0.25%, the largest monthly gain in a year, and shelter was +0.39%. Core services excluding housing was +0.42%. After falling to 1% on a three-month annualized basis in July, it jumped to 4.6% in Sept.

Fed Vice Chair Philip Jefferson signals officials may want more time before raising rates again, echoing NY Fed's John Williams. Two of the Fed's top leaders are now obliquely casting doubt on an October hike that had been increasingly priced by investors a few days ago.   From Jefferson’s talk: “As we look ahead, my view is that any future adjustments in policy should be determined by carefully examining trends in the data, the evolving outlook, and the balance of risks. Since our September meeting, yields across the term structure have increased further, a sign that investors are reassessing the evolving macroeconomic landscape. My colleagues and I will need to come to our own judgment, which may take more time. I will continue to assess whether underlying trends suggest that inflation will return to target with sufficient speed. With more data in hand, such trends may lend themselves to better discernment, as may the appropriate stance of monetary policy.”

yesterday's framework levels from VS Pro we share these every day in the morning meeting for the day AHEAD (none of this is "after the fact") they are derived from an interpretation of our data using a specific subset of entities empirically proven to have more "connection" to the market via hedging outcomes -the framework then incorporates the potential for discrete engagement around the end user long option lines and finally combines both to visualize the path through ranges as we observe the necessary hedging flows for the expiring position eventually driving directionally towards a target level (our pin / balance point) the dotted lines are range boundaries - inside each range boundary there is one primary balance target, where the flows consolidate and converge upon at end of day it is far beyond "the data" and it's the most effective thing I've ever found when it comes to guiding my discretionary daytrading 7715 was yesterday's downside range boundary 7710 was yesterday's downside pin level cliffhanger closes like that usually foretell weakness- not strength and if you haven't looked yet... the index is set to open in the 76's not the 77's

Today, the VIX expires THIS position. It is VERY important you understand how different THIS position is from the position that follows behind it. this produces "vega to sell" - it's a reflection of customers having hedged short vol with long VIX calls. gone in 13 minutes.
