You can only learn to regulate an emotion that you allow yourself to feel.
Trauma survivors often need as much information about whats going on around them as possible. This may seem intense to others, but when you’ve lived with so much uncertainty around areas that were out of our control, having facts about areas you can control helps you feel safe.
Healing isn't about getting back to who you were before. It's about coming to terms with the new you, the one who survived a storm. It's about accepting that some days will be challening, and that's okay. It's not a race and certainly not a competition.
Sitting at a desk is killing you. Fight back with 5 minutes of squats, lunges, push ups or calf raises every 1-2 hours. Best prescription you’ll ever get. If someone looks at you funny, tell them sitting is the new smoking.
"Choices" we made when we were vulnerable, unsupported, & under-resourced, don't represent who we are. They represent what we understood as our options at the time. Grace over guilt. We did what we could w/ what we had then-- & we can only do what we can w/ what we have, now.
There is power in sitting quietly with a person in deep pain. Their heart and mind is already heavy. When someone listens to hear, it allows the hurt person to experience connection rather than advice that often feels dismissive and out of reach.
The scapegoat will always be happier & shine brighter when they get away from the enabler and those the enabler protects. The enabler‘s biggest fear is they will no longer have someone to blame. This truth is a threat to one and an invitation for a new life for the other.
A survivor often doesn’t know they’re oversharing because they’re so desperate to be understood. If you find that hard to believe, you wouldn’t believe the inner dialogue they carry and the ways people have treated them for not knowing how to handle getting hurt.
