Surprising quick end to “free” parking at HamOntMarket in two weeks!? Vendors heard from customer who heard from parking attendant. Market paid $350000 to city parking over 5yrs for one "free" hour. Then council gifted garage to private consortium w no conditions re HamOntMarket
@HamOntEric Hi Eric- Confirming that Hamilton Municipal Parking System is planning to implement changes to parking technology in the York Parkade. The 1-hour free parking program for the @HamOntMarket will remain. Thanks.
@HamOntEric This effing lopsided deal. Thanks #yhmcc Y’all really worked to screw over #HamOnt Free parking meant little to me as pedestrian but it was a small incentive to get folks to market.
@HamOntEric Perhaps the city will ‘gift’ the market to a vendor consortium to run the market. Also, glad the vendors of the market were informed of this.
@HamOntEric City owns parkade. City is the only shareholder of the Hamilton Farmers Market Corp. City owns the building that houses the Farmers Market. The market paid the parkade $350K over 5 years. In short. The city paid itself.
@HamOntEric Seems perfect summary of how city fights itself. Market is a draw downtown. That free parking allows people to access JS and James street too, helping businesses, who pay taxes to city. If anything the cost to market should be less for same, not no parking.
@HamOntEric In camera sessions are really bad, this current council has spent more time in camera then anything.
