Israel comes to a standstill with a two-minute siren wailing across the country in remembrance of the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust. abcn.ws/2ZIOQDQ

@MissSmithOSU @MrCourtneyOSU A33: I agree! Even when I was looking at the two segments in task 4, the diagonal lines confused me at first glance. I think that some students will struggle with comparing the lengths of segments that contain diagonals because they are harder to see the lengths. #OSUElemMath

@MrCourtneyOSU A student can look at their hand as a unit to measure with or they can look at it to compare to centimeters and inches. #OSUElemMath

@MrCourtneyOSU A34: Teachers can use objects that the students are familiar with to introduce the concept of standard measuring units. An example I remember learning this was using our hands to measure the length of something. Hands is a standard and a nonstandard unit to practice measuring.

@MissSmithOSU @MissRushOSU A31: I agree! I think that students will have more confidence in their math solving if they have the ability to use their own methods. Kids will solve problems using the methods that make most sense to them, which can get rid of some of the misconceptions. #OSUElemMath

@MissSmithOSU @MissRushOSU A30: The first thing I thought of families incorporating math at home was in the kitchen. Preparing meals uses recipes that include fractions & potions that kids can learn about, but also after cooking dividing the food up equally among the ppl that are going to eat. #OSUElemMath

@MsSomervilleOSU @MissJonesOSU @MissTaliahK_OSU A28: I agree that the 2nd misconception is something that many students struggle with. This misconception reminded me of the videos of students pouring water from one container to another sized container and not realizing that the amount of water is the same in both. #OSUElemMath

@MissAli2020 @MissTaliahK_OSU assessing how our students are solving math problems. #OSUElemMath

@MissAli2020 @MissTaliahK_OSU A27: Ali, I agree that it depends on the student for if you should listen to them or watch them explain their work. Where some students will explain their work best verbally; others will write their work best. I think that it is important to take in both of these things when

@MissAli2020 @MissSmithOSU Morgan & Ali, Using a visual aid (blank paper with base-10 blocks to shade) or a physical manipulative (base-10 blocks) can both be great ways to represent to a student and help them distinguish between the digits and place value and what each of those things mean.

Q24: Chapter 11

@MrDakotaOSU @MeaganClardy @MrCourtneyOSU Peter, Meagan & Dakota, I agree that using visual aids and manipulative is beneficial when learning place values for all students, not just the one's struggling with this concept.

@MrDakotaOSU @MeaganClardy @MissJonesOSU Hannah, Emily, Danielle & Dakota, I agree that using iPads in the classroom is a beneficial way to include VI students in the learning. With all the apps out there, the possibilities are endless!

Q23: Chapter 10

@MissTessOSU @Miss_Erin123 Erin & Tessa, finding games, such as cards and bingo, that the student's find fun will help them enjoy learning math facts! It is important to bring lessons into the class that students will learn from, while enjoying the learning process.

@MissUlbrichOSU @MissThornOSU Meagan & Brie I agree that it is important to give students ample time understand the material becuz showing a short cut will not be beneficial to their learning. Educators are pressed for time in their class and providing kids with time to expand on their learning is important.

@MissTessOSU @MsSomervilleOSU I agree with you both that it is important to discuss student’s misconceptions about math rather than to just build on what they already know. Addressing these misconceptions will provide them with a new foundation in math to build off of in future classrooms.

@MissDanielleOSU @Miss_Erin123 Hi Danielle & Erin, I agree that it is important for teachers to give students as much time as they need to solve math problems. Many times teachers will look to critique each step of the students's process, which will cause them to become discouraged.

@MrDakotaOSU @MissSmithOSU @MissMorosky students learn from one another. #OSUElemMath

@MrDakotaOSU @MissSmithOSU @MissMorosky A21: Dakota, I think using team learning and projects in the class is a great way to get students talking and sharing their ideas and strategies with each other. Creating a class where all ideas are welcomed will help students feel comfortable sharing, which in turn helps
