Himawari-9 / CIMSS Natural Color RGB captures sunrise across the west Pacific, revealing another parade of intense low pressures across the basin. The low furthest west is forecast to develop hurricane force winds, with building seas nearing 40 ft over the next 24 hrs. #MarineWx
Yet another intense mid-latitude cyclone across the far NW Pacific this evening, seen via Himawari-9 RGB Air Mass imagery. The low is expected to steadily fill and weaken along the coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula over the next couple of days. #MarineWx

Winds are picking up across Guam and conditions are generally deteriorating. It is getting noticeably louder outside with doors and shutters rattling. Thus far, NWS Guam has seen max winds of 53mph gusting to 72mph.

A complex low in the North Atlantic is currently producing gale force conditions with winds to 40 kt and seas greater than 20 ft. In the animation below, note the two low centers rotating around one another (Fujiwhara Effect).

(1/5) A thread on the 11am EDT #Ian update from @NHC_Atlantic: Ian now has a maximum sustained wind speed of 155mph — a Category 4 hurricane. Ian is expected to make landfall in southwestern Florida in the next few hours as a catastrophic hurricane.
Life-threatening storm surge associated with Hurricane Ian is possible along the Florida west coast beginning late Tuesday. Residents in these areas should listen to advice from local officials. As forecasts may evolve, visit hurricanes.gov for the latest on #Ian.
