I'm local to Cincinnati, so my cousins were quick to send me @JoeyVotto's Insta story last night. Seems like we have another Cincinnati sports hero who is into chess (@JoeyB is another).

After horrible play...sometimes I wonder why I even play chess. It's such a demoralizing game. Yet there's so much to achieve.

I didn't make a rating goal for the year, but I was hopeful that with 4 tournaments (my goal) I could hit 1600. I thought I played at that level. After my first two tournaments back to chess, I've hit it.

What do you do if you don’t sleep well before a tournament? Didn’t sleep well and the dog woke me up at 5am before going into round 4 later this morning. #chesspunks
