I only learned much later that postdoc positions in the US typically start in September so it was a rather unsurprising mistake. Though I'm still not sure why that is the case.
@skdh Matches the academic year, I think. People travel over the summer.
@REasther Yes, but the academic year is similar in Europe, and yet the postdoc cycle isn't as strongly synched to it. You might have people starting jobs any time of the year.
