Early voting begins today in Illinois.
On the ballot: an open Senate seat, Gov. JB Pritzker's bid for a third term against Republican Darren Bailey and all 17 House seats.
Decision Desk HQ's model gives Democrats a 70% chance of flipping the House and 52% for the Senate.
49% for both chambers.
52% is a coin flip, not a forecast of victory. The Senate is unresolved.

2.96 million mail ballots have been requested nationwide. 28,500 are back.
That is 1%.
Requesting a ballot is not voting, and the gap closes slowly. Florida starts mailing to all requestors this week.

Crypto super PAC Fairshake says it will spend $30 million against Sherrod Brown in Ohio.
Its affiliates spent $40M+ against him in 2024. He lost.
This is an announcement, not an FEC filing. Nothing is booked yet.
What happens next in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: the SPD, The Left and the Greens together hold a majority and are preparing talks.
Turnout was 78.1%, up about seven points from 2021. This was mobilization, not apathy. 4/4
It is also not a one-off. Two weeks ago the AfD won Saxony-Anhalt with 43.8%, three seats short of a majority.
Same pattern in both states: the CDU's role as the main party right of center in the east is being absorbed by the AfD. 3/4
We normally cover US elections. A detour, because I am German and went through the precinct-level results myself last night.
In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern the far-right AfD finished first with 38.2%. Chancellor Merz's CDU got 4.9% and lost every seat in the state parliament. 1/4
First early vote numbers: 8,785 ballots returned, 60% by registered Democrats, 15% by Republicans.
Expected: almost all are mail ballots, which Democrats use far more. The gap will narrow once in-person early voting opens in October.
