@PeacemakingSt Yeah. The Young Men have one and the Young Women do as well.

@CraigR3521 In LA you have to ask for straws at gas stations. They’re held behind the counter for environmental reasons. If you ask you can get one but then only paper.

@nihilists4jesus It is charming but always reminded me of a slightly more complex Magic Treehouse.

@Hashboz @Costco 😂 on the other hand I really like that you’re fighting the good fight against the pests. So. Keep that up.

@nihilists4jesus Now your sub stack essays make more sense. This is the bookshelf of someone who asks whether suffering is necessary for moral development. (No.)

@harrison_mcf @SoCalConserve1 @BYU I don’t know where on the application you’re asked about a mission. But to be fair, my kids didn’t reapply after starting their schooling elsewhere: they were really happy with where they landed and not at all interested in transferring or reapplying so… anecdotal 🤷‍♀️

@harrison_mcf @SoCalConserve1 @BYU Serving a mission does not add to your resume to get into BYU.

@harrison_mcf @SoCalConserve1 @BYU Criteria for admission is nuanced and many students meet the academic standards. Placing more weight on standards of orthodoxy (like a mission) could be useful, especially to cultivate a culture on campus we want. Rather than accepting liars who don't actually want to be there.

@SoCalConserve1 @harrison_mcf @BYU Yeah, I don't think you can realistically impose an "integrity" demand beyond what is already in place at BYU. It would be nice if orthodoxy played more of a role in acceptance but leaders at home get too much pressure from parents and hope for conversion (unrealistically).

@SoCalConserve1 @harrison_mcf @BYU Meanwhile we've send three sons on full time mission and none of them have gotten into BYU. But all have held deeply fulfilling callings at the universities they attend in YSA wards so... the Lord's purposes are fulfilled I guess. But BYU has been disappointing.

@SoCalConserve1 @harrison_mcf @BYU We've sent two young men from our home ward (in SoCal) who were never active in high school, then never served missions, and they essentially lied to their bishops to remain at BYU (were never believers), graduated and never "converted." Everyone hoped they would.

@Hashboz Agree. I spent about five years volunteering at our homeless shelter just to assess what could help with that population. My conclusion? Not money.
