It is really important that we all recognise that most people with FASD will not look in anyway different and their needs are missed. Our challenge is to help them all have full and meaningful lives they are fully capable of having. That is the challenge we have been set

If we want to make this country one which supports & values people with Downs Syndrome & addresses stigma/discrimination then we need to invest properly in education, social care, better healthcare, better social opportunities for people with learning disabilities🧵
ADHD was first described in 400BC. ADHD couldn't officially exist in adults until 2008. ADHD couldn't officially exist with autism until 2013. Move faster, medical establishment!

As someone who was diagnosed with ADHD at 27 after years of traditional education and parenting not working for me diagnosis is SO important especially in girls. Girls mask so well and internalise a lot of their symptoms. I am not just ADHD but ADHD is a huge part of me.

I find being working class and the first person in my family to go to uni means that I don’t celebrate academic achievements with my family. Not that they don’t care they just don’t get it, journal articles etc don’t mean nowt when you’ve got myriad of other stuff to contend with

We don't value care, as something we might all require to receive or give. We don't value those who work in care, supporting people to live well in their community. We don't value it because we don't see small wins that mean the world - we value the drama more.

Something I have learned from my own advanced stage cancer and now in the midst of my Dad’s terminal cancer. You don’t need someone to tell you to keep your chin up, or ‘stay positive’ or tell you about their friend’s cousin’s hairdresser’s Aunty who cured their cancer by wafting…
