@SteveGelbs “basepath” and “baseline” are different things (by rule, not because I say so). He’s out for running out of the basepath (even though he didn’t).

@SteveGelbs please tell Gary the Tigers were NOT founded in 1901, but in 1895. They were part of the Western League that changed its name to American League for the 1900 season. The AL withdrew from the National Agreement & declared itself a major league for 1901.

@TheUncleRalo @nut_history ‘Til 1910ish nicknames were an informal thing and what you called your favorite team might depend on what the newspaper you read called the team. For instance some NYC papers called the NY AL team Yanks as early as 1904.

@therealmofo99 @TheUncleRalo @nut_history Current Reds not related to 1869 team you’re referring to. That team went out of biz after 1870 season. Current Reds date from 1882. Teams currently known as Braves date from 1871 & Cubs from 1870 to name 2 teams older than the Reds.

@HowieRose Every change generates this “if they do this baseball isdead to me” reaction. I’ll bet in 1903 when foul balls became strikes a bunch of fans reacted this way. Same when courtesy runners were outlawed, balls bouncing into the stands were no longer HRs, etc. Yet baseball lives on.
