The @OntScienceCtr opened 56 years ago today, on Sept 26, 1969. A gift to Ontarians for Canada’s centennial, a radio signal from over 1.5 billion light-years away struck a circuit at the OSC to raise a curtain, opening it for all. Doug Ford, age 4, could not stop the launch.

@SaveOSC We recently took a trip to Sudbury and visited Science North. On the way home we discussed how 1) we don’t invest in children’s museums/science centres/learning centres anymore (all these places were built decades ago) 2) how sad and angry we still are about the OSC closing

Moriyama’s OSC was designed as part of the larger, 180-acre conservation area, E.T. Seton Park. Together, we can fully realize his vision of an inclusive meeting place for public education and recreation, whether one’s journey starts from the Don Valley Ravine or Don Mills Road.
@SaveOSC Not only that, they are renovating & fixing the ROM while still allowing visitors! It’s like the Ford government has (conveniently) forgotten a hundred years of building technology in abandoning the OSC.

The AGO is expanding without capital funding from the provincial government, which is disappointing. The province provided $21M last year to the AGO (approx 1/3rd of operating budget) but nothing to the expansion which is 1/3rd funded by the federal government.
