Northwestern Salamander (Ambystoma gracile) has lots of visible poison gland tissue (cream areas). One researcher found out that the toxin causes burning & dryness when put on your tongue. For more, see Brodie & Gibson 1969. #Amphibia #wildlife

Sometimes I forget how far technology has advanced in terms of computers. However, phylogenetic programs, although fast for what they do, make me think of the times when computers took days for simple calculations. Going on 8hrs. #IB515 #Scicomm

The tailed frog (Ascaphus spp) is a group of frogs endemic to the Pacific Northwest. My brother's term for these frogs, "Backwards Dick Frogs," is a more adequate name than what they are actual called. Males have an external copulatory organs (i.e. a penis). #IB515 #SciComm

Nature in general is amazing, but sometimes it really outdoes itself. Blanket Octopus (Tremoctopus sp.) seem like an animal that gives fiction a run for its money. #SciComm #IB515.

Found one of my favorite #snek species today! The Northern Rubber Boa (Charina bottae) are found at higher latitudes than any other boid (boa family) species. They range from California to British Columbia and a little east. #IB515 #Scicomm

This #spider consumes specialized protein- and fat-rich nubs called Beltian bodies which are found on Acacia trees. Beltian bodies account for over 90% of their diet, along with nectar and occasionally ant larvae that are stolen from Acacia ants (Pseudomyrmex spp.). #spiderFacts

It's #NationalSerpentDay! Found 3 Red-spotted Gartersnakes on this cloudy day. These #sneks are one of the few animals that can eat the very toxic Rough-skinned Newts which have the same toxin (TTX) that is found in fugu. #scicomm #IB515
