The beauty of symbiosis in nature 🧵 1. The thinner tree was cut down years ago, and the larger one has been supporting and feeding it since then. They "wake up" together in the spring and "go to sleep" together in the autumn. This natural phenomenon is known as inosculation.

I'm the only person who masks consistently at church, but someone just told me his child has had strep three times in the past year. That. Is. Not. Normal. I read posts by actual scientists, and their ideas may change. Currently it appears that COVID damages our immune systems.

I've taken to dehydrating fruits and vegetables because I think there will be shortages and food riots in six months. I want the dehydrated food to tide me over if the store is too dangerous to go to, or short of supplies. Only short-term, though. Lord, have mercy.

It is odd to see the Episcopal Church extolled or referred to admiringly, when I am so bathed in decades of self-flagellation as well as derision from outsiders. Let us be humble about our failings, but joyful about the gifts God has given us.

My friend's child has had strep throat three times this year. I read that some people believe that COVID damages the immune system, making other infections more likely. I don't know if my friend's child has had COVID and we're not close enough for me to ask. I pray for her.

40 years ago, my aunt and uncle asked for a particular book, which their daughter dutifully gave them for Christmas: Final Exit. They were reassured by having it, but lived out their natural lives even though they were greatly debilitated at the end. I've just gotten my copy.

My MAGA neighbor is angry at Bishop Budde for her sermon. I can't understand it! It's absolutely correct that if you put Jesus' words into modern-day conversational English, many American Christians would revile them -- ESPECIALLY if a woman says them.

It is cruel to shut out people who had plane tickets in their hands. They had been officially vetted and accepted as refugees. What is the benefit of abandoning them? The cruelty seems to be the point. My country used to offer better arguments for the things it did.

I wonder how many progressives are secretly relieved at some of the actions Trump is taking -- only some. We have bullied and silenced each other. This is nothing to be proud of.
