Once again, Blackstone is straight up telling their investors - there’s a housing shortage, nobody is fixing it, and we’re gonna make money off of it. We’re playing right into their hands.
Zoning is not the most exciting topic but if you want to know 'Why is housing so expensive?', then learn how these rules prevent affordable housing from being built in your area! youtu.be/0Flsg_mzG-M
If we can't make Ventura County more affordable soon, our economy is going to go from stagnant into decline.

Dense, infill housing is a climate issue. Some environmental organizations get this. However, other orgs don’t & have a big blind spot — viewing it as someone else’s problem to solve or, with some orgs, showing outright hostility to pro-housing policies. This has to change.
The old strategy for managing street parking in LA was to limit residential density directly through zoning and indirectly through off-street parking requirements, which led to sky-high housing prices and homelessness. We should manage the curb with meters and permits instead.

"Studies have shown that providing on-site parking in #California raises apartment construction costs by around $36,000 per unit and increases rents by about $200 per month." So who's going benefit from all these car-free homes? Thousands of low-income renters.😀 3/3
One way to increase the availability of family-sized units would be to build lots of studios and one-bedroom units. How many two- and three-bedroom units are outbid and occupied by singles doubling or tripling up who might have preferred their own unit?
The Supreme Court will meet on Thursday to vote on a case concerning the rights of people experiencing homelessness. For those who need some background to understand what this case is about, check out this @voxmedia article 👇 vox.com/scotus/2412332…

Next up is daylighting… what is that? Daylighting (discussed in AB 413) prevents vehicles from parking or stopping along a curb within 20 feet approaching a marked or unmarked crosswalk. An essential public safety for our pedestrian and bicyclists. @VCYimby @dvmmum @move_vc…

Last month the city council of Burlington, VT (pop. 45,000) unanimously approved major zoning reforms. Now allowed on all resi parcels: fourplexes or more, 3-4 stories, better setbacks and lot coverage, no unit limits for denser zones. They also eliminated parking reqs last year.
Building more housing—it works!

'Oversupply' means housing abundance. More availability, more choice. Renters can afford a better quality home for their budget, or maintain the same quality home while saving money. And our poorest citizens will be the biggest winners. It's the landlord's nightmare. Oh dear.

SD's ADU bonus program is a big win for housing. It allows homebuilders to add extra ADUs on a lot in exchange for affordable ones (220+ so far) It's really a smart way to add more homes to existing neighborhoods. Plus, it cuts sprawl and commutes.
We've been named a Top 10 Finalist for the 2024 Ivory Prize for #HousingAffordability! Our ADU Bonus Program was recognized for its potential to rapidly increase supply and density of affordable housing, encouraging development and benefitting residents. sandiego.gov/insidesd/san-d…

The old strategy for managing street parking in LA was to limit residential density directly through zoning and indirectly through off-street parking requirements, which led to sky-high housing prices and homelessness. We should manage the curb with meters and permits instead.
In car-centric L.A., thousands of new apartments are getting built with zero on-site parking. Housing advocates say it brings down construction costs and lowers rents. Neighbors worry street parking will turn into a bloodsport. My latest @LAist story: laist.com/news/housing-h…
@amyliztweets I think there are two basic theories of the housing crisis. YIMBYs of all stripes believe we have a housing shortage, and the solution is to build more homes. Supply skeptics believe that housing is misallocated, and the solution is to regulate ownership, price, and occupancy.
It's no secret that it's almost impossible to get residential development to pencil right now in LA, and besides ED 1 projects, few apartment buildings are getting entitled or breaking ground. While it's going to be much quicker, easier, and cheaper to entitle mixed-income…
"Studies have shown that providing on-site parking in #California raises apartment construction costs by around $36,000 per unit and increases rents by about $200 per month." So who's going benefit from all these car-free homes? Thousands of low-income renters.😀 3/3
