What Vivek Ramaswamy has done is absolutely beyond despicable and evil. It is the most vile thing I have ever seen in politics. Using Amy Acton's birth mother who stayed married to Amy's rapist and was so abusive she lost custody of her kids, for political gain is despicable.

Hard to overstate how much the Amy Acton Mom ad is what the modern GOP is about. All these anxieties about how people (especially women and children) might use their agency to break bonds of filial duty and free themselves, rather than be subject to control and abuse. We sort of satirize them as the “you can’t groom my kids, that’s MY job!” Party, but this ad is very nearly that explicit argument. They don’t want schools to empower young people to find the autonomy to come out as gay or trans, they don’t want colleges to teach young adults about the breadth of the world and the human dignity of people from diverse backgrounds, they don’t want women to have financial independence and jobs and no-fault divorce. At the heart of the GOP is this very straightforward premise: “there are some people whom it is my right to abuse. They are my property, and they owe me total obedience; freeing themselves from my abuse is a betrayal of natural hierarchy and divine law. You are trying to take my victims away from me, and I’ll do anything to stop you.”

The Cornell case is very sad but two things: 1) "drunk/high people can't consent" is not actually NYS law 2) a bunch of people got out over their skis on a similar story in nearby Binghamton a few years ago and were made fools of when additional facts came out

so i read Nikole Hannah-Jones NYT piece on her daughter’s education the short answer is she and her husband are bad parents the long answer is that your child should never be a vessel for your own vanity or politics the longer answer is that there is no greater condemnation of liberal politics & virtues than someone who sacrificed their child’s pedagogy and disastrously fail to prove “if i simply believe the ‘right’ things, society will fix itself” probably the thing that makes me the maddest is how she tried to falsely equate the struggle for educational civil rights (where black children were rightfully trying to attention well-funded white schools that they were barred by law from attending until the SC & the US Army intervened) to her degenerate choice of purposefully sending her child to a poorly funded one just so she can score virtue points with the liberal literati i could go on, but there’s no greater critique i could provide their her own daughter exposing her (& her father’s) sheer naked stupidity and narcissism

I'm sorry, this is so absurd. "We can't publish this story because while it's newsworthy and true, the subject might kill himself" is obviously an insane position to hold. Do just the tiniest amount of second-level thinking about what that position would logically lead to. If Arday wants kill himself, that's on him, not on the journalists exposing his lies. Furthermore, it's insane to see him treated like he's just a lil smol bean who never hurt nobody. Jason Arday was a bad person. He was a plagiarist and a fraud. He was a serial liar who lied about nearly every part of his life. Because of his fraud and his lies, he stole opportunities that rightfully should have gone to other academics. What's more, when students complained he was a crappy professor, he accused them of racism! When a journalist started digging into his lies, he called the police on them! He was a bad person, and he deserved to be exposed as the fraud he was. It's absolutely insane that anyone would suggest the people exposing his lies are somehow at fault in this situation.
