The roots of Black American music is Gospel and the Blues. Both are meant to touch you in the deepest parts of your soul. They also tell our history. Why would we like genres of music that aren’t meant to do that just because we share the same skin color?

Drake is NOT black. He’s a biracial Canadian who in his own words say he “associates” with Blackness. Maybe if y’all would realize that the big B is Black American and the little b is a race identifier than we can stop with this shit.

The average Drake fan does not listen to Hip-hop. They listen to Drake. The average Kendrick fan at the very least has a basic understanding of the art form and actually respects the craft. This is based on what I have seen with my own eyes in real life.

The song is called Euphoria. Drake is an Executive Producer on a show called Euphoria. Euphoria has been criticized for explicit scenes of people who are depicted as teenagers. Drake has an alleged history of dealing with…you know what let me shut up.
The fact that Drake stans are trying to insist Hip Hop—a genre/culture created by Black ppl to give voice to Black ppl and our experiences—shouldn’t critique his exploitation of Blackness + ppl, confirms why Kendrick said he’s speaking for the culture w/ his critiques of Drake.
It’s so compelling that Drake has shown us for years that he feels he can step in & out of his own Blackness when he feels it’s appropriate. Black people who are phenotypically Black don’t get to choose to not speak about politics when it impacts our daily livelihood & existence.
I think about this part in Drake’s Rap Radar interview and his commitment to avoiding race in his music, while simultaneously wanting that particular kind of respect in Hip Hop is wild to me.

If you want to go at someone like Drake and come out victorious you need to permanently alter the state of their career. Pusha had it in him. Apparently Kendrick does not.
Kendrick didn’t say Drake’s not Black because he’s light skinned or biracial—it’s because he cosplays Blackness from every artist and region he can steal it from—despite never speaking on Black issues while actively being exploitative, and doing mess like calling Rick Ross racist
