Today was an interesting day.
Congratulations to the entire @Pfizer team on the 1st COVID-19 vaccine in the US granted with @US_FDA emergency use authorization. This EUA allows the BioNTech vaccine purchased by the US government to be shipped across America to those who need it most to #SaveLives
Tonight, the whole world is watching America. I believe at our best America is a beacon for the globe. And we lead not by the example of our power, but by the power of our example.
Now that the campaign is over—what is the people’s will? What is our mandate? I believe it is this: Americans have called on us to marshal the forces of decency and the forces of fairness. To marshal the forces of science and the forces of hope in the great battles of our time.
We cannot repair the economy, restore our vitality, or relish life’s most precious moments — hugging a grandchild, birthdays, weddings, graduations, all the moments that matter most to us — until we get this virus under control.
BARDA has a proven track record of responding to outbreaks and developing lifesaving medical countermeasures. Together with our partners, we bring products across the finish line so they can be used to #SaveLives. We are dedicated to working together to fight #COVID19.

BARDA is partnering with @ParatekPharma on the advanced development of an antibiotic to treat anthrax lung infections. NUZYRA is approved to treat community-acquired bacterial pneumonia & acute skin infections, which can complicate disaster response. hhs.gov/about/news/201…
This is a key point. Products must be made available for all populations, and government can play a key role when those populations may not constitute an attractive value proposition for developers.
